Exploring with the Next Generation of Native American Students

BCOM Surgery Chair Adela Lente, MD, faced numerous hurdles in her journey to becoming one of the few female, Native American, board-certified surgeons in the country. Now, she's started a mentoring program that aims to get Native American students interested in not only medicine, but any form of higher education.

COMPASS and SOMA Perform 130 Free Health Screenings
Steve Berruecos and Renan Orellana founded COMPASS to reach out to under-served communities in the region and, in partnership with the Student Osteopathic Medical Association, they hosted a health fair that reached hundreds of Las Crucens.
 
BCOM Student's Team Wins LAUNCH Competition
Robyn Marks and her team won $20,000 through the Arrowhead Center competition to put towards the commercialization of their prosthetic sleeve liner product.
 
Royce Sumayo Presents Research at Neurology Conference
Sumayo's research investigates the relationship between leukodystrophies and seizures and was conducted in collaboration with neurologist Joseph Sirven, MD, of the Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

Arrowhead Center at NMSU, BCOM to Host HealthAssembly Conference
HealthAssembly, an inaugural conference presented by Arrowhead Center at New Mexico State University and hosted by Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, will take place June 14 at BCOM . The conference is held at the culmination of HealthSprint, a new five-month digital health technology accelerator program powered by New Mexico Gas Company that supports and grows promising startups in healthtech.

Participants and panelists will dive into the latest innovations in the Internet of Medical Things, including big data analysis, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, security, telemedicine, patient participation, and investment. The event features keynotes from regional and national industry leaders, engaging panels and discussions.

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to this celebration in the courtyard on Wednesday, May 16.

This event on May 21 will feature keynote speaker Dr. Howard S. Teitelbaum.
