recommendRecommend a Grad Student for our Recruitment Project

Starting this summer, the Faculty of Arts and Science (FAS) will offer 4th year undergraduate students the opportunity to have informal discussions with a current grad student. The first discussions will be about the grad student experience and whether grad studies is the right fit. Then, in the fall, we plan to offer additional sessions about selecting programs, plans and supervisors, as well as opportunities for assistance with funding and program applications.

We have emailed students who are going into fourth year with a cumulative average of A- and above, and already have over 50 students signed up! We are also willing to offer these services to any undergraduate student recommended by one of our departments.

At this point, we are looking to recruit our graduate student mentors and would appreciate it if you would recommend one or more of your students. Please first verify that the students are willing to chat via email, phone, or skype with one or more undergraduate students this summer and fall. Please also note that CGS-M, CGS-D, and OGS award winners are particularly well-suited for this as they would be able to advise students on funding applications this fall.

This is an excellent opportunity to help and promote your own program to our best and brightest undergraduate students. Each undergraduate student will receive up to 5 hours of individual mentoring in addition to group activities such as a panel on applying for scholarships (date and format to be determined). We will compensate our "volunteer" graduate mentor students for their time at a rate of $20 per hour.

Please forward your recommendations (name, email, and cell phone number) to Vicky Arnold  at arnoldv@queensu.ca  by FRIDAY, JUNE 29, 2018.
reminderReminder and Extended Deadline: FAS and SGS funds in support of Graduate Recruitment 2018-19

This year the Faculty of Arts and Science (FAS) and School of Graduate Studies (SGS) will jointly provide funds to support academic units in their recruitment efforts. By doing so, units need not submit multiple requests.

FAS/SGS funding is available for recruitment initiatives, such as website updates/re-launches, videos, digital advertising, webinars, open houses, campus visits, etc. Funding will be awarded on the basis of the proposal received. Proposals must include a clear description of the initiative, the objective, the timeline for implementation or launch, how success will be measured, and the projected costs.

Note that Departments are expected to contribute some departmental funds towards the projected costs of recruitment.

Please  complete the form  and submit your initial ideas to Vicky Arnold at arnoldv@queensu.ca . The deadline has been extended from FRIDAY, JUNE 15, 2018 to FRIDAY, JUNE 29, 2018.

We will review your submission, determine the combined level of support that will be funded by the FAS and SGS, and work with you to achieve your goals.
Programs must submit a report at the end of the recruitment cycle.

Best regards,
Vicky Arnold, FAS Marketing Manager
Colette Steer, SGS Manager Recruitment & Events
