HOLY LAND TOUR - FREE LUNCH AND A SHOW!
Sunday, May 5th at 11:45 am

Visit the Mediterranean through sights, sounds and tastes of Israel and Egypt. Follow in Jesus' footsteps as fellow church members share photos and experiences of their recent travels to the Holy Land with our Bishop. A typical Mediterranean lunch will be provided by the travelers along with talented chef, Clyde Sacks.

Rev. Joyce Snapp, Bob and Ann Gerteis, and Jim and Marlene Waltz went on the tour with Mountain Sky Conference Methodists and Bishop Karen Oliveto.   Nancy and Mac DeGuire and Terry and JoAnn Vogt went on separate tours and have generously shared some favorite photos.

Please RSVP so they can estimate the amount of food, but please come (and invite guests), too.  The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall or email Marlene Waltz at [email protected].

KING SOOPERS RE-LOADABLE GIFT CARDS

Many of you have been using the re-loadable  gift cards at King Soopers and Safeway from which we accrue 5% of your grocery and gas purchases.

As of April 1, King Soopers has simplified their rewards program. You will no longer need to reload the gift cards. Your card is still valid, but once you get to a zero balance, reloading it will not benefit us.

King Soopers will be calculating the 5% rewards based on customers' use of their
regular rewards card  (this is the card you scan to get your in-store discounts; you may also put in your phone number instead).

In order for our church (United Methodist Church of Evergreen) to be the recipient of 5% of your spending on gas and groceries, you need to designate us as your preferred organization.  Detailed instructions on how to link your rewards card to the church will be provided as soon as the church is set up as one of the organizations.  If you don't have a computer, we will help you set up your account.  You will need to have your King Soopers rewards card in order to set up the account. Thank you  for your continued support of our grocery card program.

MISSIONS CLOTHING DRIVE FOR THE TENNYSON
CENTER FOR CHILDREN
Sunday, April 28th before and after services

Tennyson Center for Children is a residential treatment center and K-12 school for emotionally and crisis-affected children and youth, particularly those who have suffered from abuse and neglect. It serves children ranging in age from 5-18 and states as its mission: "We are dedicated to ensuring that these amazing kids have the fighting chance they deserve at a satisfying and fulfilling life."  Many children come to Tennyson Center wearing clothes that are torn, tattered and one or two sizes too small.  To ensure that every child has clothes that fit, Tennyson Center accepts donations of new clothing in its Dress a Child program.

Our shopping expert, Katie Zapotoczny, will purchase a variety of new clothing for this drive (used clothing is not accepted).  You can support this program by donating to cover the cost of these clothes purchased for the Tennyson Center's resident children. The clothes that Missions has purchased will be displayed and available for "sponsorship" on April 28th in the Fellowship Hall, before and after services.  Please consider supporting this effort!  Questions?  Call Bill Graf 303-246-8330 or email [email protected].

LOOKING FOR SAFEWAY SHOPPERS

We encourage people who shop at Safeway to purchase a card from the church for $10, then support the church by loading your new card with cash or a credit card at a Safeway checkout.  You can continue to load the same card on an ongoing basis at the store, and the church continues to benefit.  The church will receive a check for 5% of sales.  We have several shoppers at Kings Soopers, and every two to three months we receive a check for $250-$350.  It would be wonderful to start getting checks from Safeway as well.  Please see Charlene Hahn or Barb Grindle after church services to purchase a card.

MINISTRY JOTTINGS BY PASTOR DEB

The Great Race

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus . . . - Hebrews 12: 1-2

The season of Lent is nearly complete. By now, we often are weary of the journey, tired of all this introspection and self-examination. Like a long-distance runner, now may be the time for a "second wind" to finish the race. It is with a marathon runner's motif that the writer of Hebrews makes these points:

First, we are surrounded by witnesses. All the saints who have died are pictured as cheering us on - loved ones of the past now lined up near the finish line . . . cheering for us! Second, we must lay aside the stuff that weighs us down. For a runner, that's excess weight. For the Christian, it's our sins.   Third, we are called to run with endurance. The race is long, lasting not just the season of Lent, but a lifetime. And it requires a steady pace.

And finally, we fix our eyes on Jesus. None of us can run this race with our own strength. Our goal is life with Christ; so with our eyes set on him, we run the race with courage, conviction and faith. Holy Week - a difficult week-lies ahead. May God inspire us to finish this race with endurance, reaching for the Prize!

Take a look back over Lent. Has the season been good for you? A struggle? Worth it? May God give you ongoing strength for the days ahead.

Blessings,

Pastor Deb Olenyik
