Honeymoon Suite launches Concerts in the Park

Cheer on the Raptors in Jurassic Park Vaughan


To build on the success of Sunday's Jurassic Park Vaughan - which brought more than 1,000 fans together at Vaughan City Hall - the City will continue to host viewing parties for the community to watch the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals. Order of Vaughan: honouring exemplary citizenship


To mark Vaughan's 25th anniversary in 2016, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua championed the creation of the Order of Vaughan to recognize exemplary citizenship in a meaningful and lasting way. Individuals like Hannah Godefa, a 2016 recipient awarded for her global advocacy in support of youth, women and humanitarian issues. Do you know someone who stands out as a dedicated, compassionate and accomplished leader? Nominate them for the 2019 Order of Vaughan by July 31. Splash pads are now open daily


Did you know there are 17 splash pads and water play parks throughout Vaughan? Visit vaughan.ca/SplashPads 
to find one close to you for your families, friends and neighbours to come together and enjoy the beautiful weather. The splash pads are open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Labour Day.

Discount for students at Vaughan Fitness Centres


On now until Aug. 31, students can save 30 per cent on monthly memberships at Vaughan Fitness Centres. Membership includes access to six fitness centres, squash courts, saunas, pools and fitness classes. Learn more and find a fitness centre close to you at vaughan.ca/Fitness .

Managing urban wildlife


Vaughan is home to many types of wild animals, such as raccoons, skunks, birds and coyotes. With understanding and some simple precautions, residents can learn to enjoy the wild animals that share our backyards and cities. Be sure to supervise your pets when they are outside and keep them safely on a leash. Do not feed or handle wildlife, and never transport or relocate them. Vaughan recognizes Italian Heritage Month


Throughout the month of June, Vaughan recognizes the history of Italian-Canadian culture with various events happening around the city, including the raising of the Italian flag at Vaughan City Hall on Saturday, June 1, art and literature displays, Italian Food and Wellness Lunch Workshops by Fina Scroppo on Thursday, June 13, 20 and 27, and an Afresco Artists group exhibit at MacDonald House from Friday, July 5 to Sunday, July 7. Vaughan recognizes National Indigenous History Month

T hroughout the month of June, Vaughan recognizes National Indigenous History Month. A highlight celebrated during this month is National Indigenous Peoples Day on Friday, June 21. The day recognizes the unique languages, cultural practices and spiritual beliefs among the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples that form the Indigenous community. A new exhibit will launch on Friday, June 14 to commemorate the month entitled facingNORTH: art | symbol | story and will be in the On the SLATE atrium gallery at Vaughan City Hall until December. Watermain replacement on Clark Avenue West between Bathurst and Yonge streets

   
The City of Vaughan is replacing an important watermain to continue to provide safe and reliable drinking water to the residents and businesses of Vaughan. Construction has commenced to the road and surrounding area of Clark Avenue West between Bathurst and Yonge streets and is expected to be completed in fall 2019. Please expect intermittent eastbound and westbound lane closures and possible delays. The City asks for patience as this project is completed for the benefit of the community. Get free mulch at City of Vaughan Environmental Days 


   
Mark your calendars. The next Environmental Days takes place on Saturday, June 8 at Vellore Village Community Centre from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Get free mulch, exchange damaged City-issued waste bins, drop off electronic waste for recycling, donate gently used clothing and more. Learn more at vaughan.ca/EnvironmentalDays.

My Waste app is changing to Recycle Coach

   
On June 14, the My Waste app will no longer be available for download and will be replaced with the Recycle Coach app. If you already have My Waste, you will be sent a notification asking you to download Recycle Coach to continue receiving City of Vaughan customized recycling and waste alerts. Recycle Coach is completely free and downloading it will ensure you continue to receive notices. More information: vaughan.ca/Waste .
Major Mackenzie road closure from June 17 to Aug. 30

York Region will be performing work on Major Mackenzie Drive West from Avro/McNaughton roads to St. David's Parish from Monday, June 17 to Friday, Aug. 30. For more information on planned detours for motorists, public transit users, pedestrians and cyclists, visit york.ca/MajorMackClosure .
Major Mackenzie Drive Humber River bridge construction

York Region is making improvements to Major Mackenzie Drive from Highway 50 to Highway 400 in the city of Vaughan. Construction is already underway to accommodate growth, improve traffic flow, and provide public transit connections and more travel options for all - including the bridge over the Humber River. This rendering shows how the Highway 27 intersection and bridge will align with the future Major Mackenzie Drive. VivaNext Rapidway on Highway 7 West, and Bathurst and Centre streets will support more efficient transportation in Vaughan

To support future growth and travel demands, and to help reduce long-term traffic congestion throughout the city and region, road and transit infrastructure improvements are being made. The vivaNext Rapidway on Highway 7 West, and Bathurst and Centre streets will connect residents across the city. Yonge Subway Extension will connect Vaughan to neighbouring communities

T he planned Yonge Subway Extension (YSE) is a cross-jurisdictional project from the City of Toronto into the City of Vaughan, City of Markham and City of Richmond Hill. This Council-approved initiative is a critical rapid transit link that will include up to six new stations. The preliminary planning, design and engineering phase of the YSE is currently underway and expected to be completed in 2020. Construction will create thousands of design and construction jobs and will provide lasting economic benefits to Toronto and York Region. Learn more about the project by visiting vivaNext.com .

Concerts in the Park - Launch

The annual Concerts in the Park series returns on select Wednesdays in June and July 2019. This year is an extra special one as the City celebrates its 25th anniversary!
