Memory Cafés

Memory Cafés welcome those experiencing early stage dementia, mild memory loss or cognitive impairment, as well as family and friends of those affected. They are a great opportunity for lively discussions, information gathering, refreshments, camaraderie and creative fun! We have a gerontology professional available to answer questions and an enormous wealth of experience among participants to be shared. We'd be delighted if you would join us!

| Celebrate Independance Day |
Join us at the Appleton Public Library, 225 N Oneida St, on Tuesday, July 3, from 10-11:30 am to celebrate Independence Day. Our guest facilitator Bob Archer from Carolina Assisted Living has a fun filled café in store for us including a sing along and a great time with flags, fireworks and a special guest Al the Dog! Refreshments will be served. Take the elevator to Lower Level Meeting Room D.

| Celebrate Summer at the Hill with a Special Drumming Cafe |
Come one, come all for an afternoon of fun at Mosquito Hill Nature Center, N3880 Rogers Rd. on Wednesday, July 11, at 1:30 pm. The Oshkosh Rhythm Institute will be here with all their percussion instruments to help us move to the beat of our own drum! We would like to make this an extra special day and encourage you to invite your children and grandchildren to join us for this special time together. We request everyone attend with a partner!

Memory Assessment Center
|
Assessments are offered at Mosaic Family Health in downtown Appleton by Dr. Lee Vogel and resident physicians. Initial assessments screen for memory impairment, assess overall health and, if warranted, proceed to a more comprehensive evaluation to diagnose the cause/type of dementia. REACH In-Home Caregiver Support
|
REACH (Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Caregiver Health) is a 6 month evidence-based in-home caregiver intervention program. REACH supports the caregiver by addressing issues such as emotional well being, stress management, troubling behaviors, problem solving and self-care.

Wednesday, August 1 at 7 pm to attend the preview night of "Disney's The Jungle Book KIDS"" with your fellow Memory Project friends. This play is adapted from the classic Disney animated film and the works of Rudyard Kipling. It is full of colorful characters and your favorite songs from the movie. This

As We Head To Door County For

Please join us on Thursday, August 9 as we travel on a coach
bus with old and new friends for our next exciting day trip.
Our first stop is at Renard's Cheese in Sturgeon Bay. We will learn about the history of this family owned and operated business run by the 3rd generation master cheese maker, Chris Renard. Be prepared to sample their tasty cheese, fresh curds and a tempting selection of fudge! We will make sure we have coolers ready for you to store your purchases!
The drive to our luncheon site will take us through the quaint villages of Door County. Our luncheon site is Rowley's Bay Resort on the Lake Michigan shoreline.
Dessert will be trays of tasty bars from Grandma's Swedish Bakery, conveniently located at our luncheon site. This popular tourist stop has been tantalizing the taste buds of Door County visitors and natives with ½-pound pecan and cinnamon rolls, cardamom coffee cake, cherry granola cookies and limpa bread. You will have an opportunity to visit the bakery to take home tasty treats!

| "Tune Into Summer" with the Kimberly Community Band |
Join us for an evening of music with the Kimberly Community Band at their concert on
Wednesday, July 25 at 7 pm. This free concert will be held at the Sunset Park Amphitheater, 800 W Kimberly Ave. An ice cream social will follow the concert. For more information about the Kimberly Community Band and their summer programs

"Understanding the Dementia Journey"
Free Educational Workshops Across the Fox Valley |
The Fox Valley Memory Project and the Alzheimer's Association are partnering to present a year-long educational series about dementia. The July and August workshop is entitled "Effective Communication Strategies" with a special presentation topic about Sensory Theme Kits. These workshops will be presented at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, July 24 at the Neenah Public Library 240 E Wisconsin Ave. and again on Tuesday, August 14
at the Prince of Peace Church, 2330 E Calumet St. in Appleton.

Join the "On a Positive Note" Chorus
and Put a Little Music in Your Life |
Frank Rippl will once again lead the "On a Positive Note" chorus in favorite and familiar songs. This chorus is especially designed for those experiencing memory loss and their loved ones. No special musical skills are required.

5th Annual SPARK! Conference
"Connecting through Creativity"

The 5th Annual SPARK! Conference will take place on Thursday and Friday, September 20 & 21 at The Building for Kids Children's Museum in Appleton.
The SPARK! conference provides a diverse offering of training focused on best practices for creative engagement through art, nature and culture. The conference will feature nationally recognized presenters, in-depth and hands-on sessions which will include brain health, art-making, grant writing, building community partnerships and many others.

Memory Camp: A Time for Relaxation & Inspiration for
People Living with Dementia & their Families

The first residential Memory Camp in the U.S. will take place this summer at Moon Beach Camp in St. Germain, WI, on
August 20 - 23
.
This special camp is designed for people living with mild to moderate dementia, their care partners and family members.

Moon Beach Camp is three and a half hours from the Fox Valley and not far from Eagle River. The cost is $400 per person which includes lodging, all meals, and programs. People with dementia must be accompanied by a care partner. Two or more additional family members may be accommodated in most housing units (lodges and cabins). SPARK!
|
SPARK! is a program for caregivers and loved ones living with memory loss. The Trout Museum of Art (with a second program at St Paul Elder Service) and The Building for Kids Children's Museum are pleased to be among the Wisconsin museums awarded funding by Bader Philanthropies and the Community Foundation to create programming where participants engage in lively discussions, art making, and multi-sensory activities.
Each one-hour program is led by a specially trained museum educator who will engage participants in interactive exhibit experiences. After each program, coffee and conversation is led by volunteers who give participants and caregivers the opportunity to support and socialize.

Memory Care Respite Partners

A monthly respite program is held on the first Monday of each month at St Paul Lutheran Church in Neenah. The next program w
ill be held on
Monday, July 2 from 1:30 - 3:30 pm.
Beginning in August this program will be held on both the 1st and 2nd Monday of each month. Offering care partners 2 hours of personal time, this free program is staffed by professional caregivers and trained volunteers. Activities include music, organized arts, crafts and refreshments.
