Happy Birthday Edgar J. Helms
Goodwill's founder, Edgar J. Helms, was born Jan. 19, 1863 in New York. He grew up on an Iowa farm before attending Cornell College. Helms then followed a greater calling to study theology at Boston University. He was appointed pastor of a church in the Morgan Hill community of Boston, where he adopted the Goodwill model of collecting donated goods and giving people a chance to work to repair and sell those goods,

We salute his 156th Birthday by recalling the remarkable and legendary work he did on behalf of individuals with disabilities and disadvantages.

His motto still rings true today:

"We at Goodwill Industries will be satisfied only when every person in the global community has the opportunity to achieve his or her fullest potential."
