Greetings from Director Tom Hui

We are happy to announce that the plan review fees for legalizing in-law units are now officially waived.
Per Ordinance 146-5, the plan review fees for both the Planning Department and the Department of Building Inspection for unit legalization have been waived since September 5, 2015.
This waiver can possibly save property owners over $3,000 in plan review fees.
We hope that waiving plan review fees will give property owners the incentive to legalize their existing in-law units, ensuring that those units are safe and habitable for the tenants who rent them. Through this program code-compliant and economical units are added to the housing stock. So
if you own one of these in-law units, take advantage of this waiver, and help the City add safe housing units to the market.
Also, starting on October 19, 2015 new fee tables will go into effect, which continue an overall 7-10 percent reduction for our services. If you are thinking of starting a project, now is a great opportunity to do so with our new fee tables on permits.

What You Can Do During the Drought
California is currently in the midst of one of the most severe and longest droughts our state has known. We have reached our fourth year of drought. DBI is urging San Francisco residents to conserve and identity plumbing problems in your home or property that may waste water. If you are experiencing unusual leaks or drips from your
water installations, save both your water and money by having them inspected and repaired.
Water use alternative programs such as rainwater and graywater harvesting are available through the
