May
2018

Sponsor a 2018 research grant!
The 3 grants available for sponsorship!

Following our Winn grant review in March, Winn selects three research projects for donors to sponsor.

About sponsorship of a cat health project...

Sponsors will receive progress reports as they are available and copies of any publications that result from the project. Your help in sponsoring these projects means Winn can fund even more research next year and you are part of improving the health and lives of cats everywhere.

(Bria Fund Study and New Feline Investigator Award)
Emi Barker, BVSc, PhD, DACVIM, ECVIM, Christopher Helps, BVSc, PhD; Langford Vets, University of Bristol, UK

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is caused by a coronavirus, only some infected cats get the disease. This study will examine how genetic differences in a cat's immune system play a role in this disease, and how common these differences are in the general cat population.

W18-019: Examining the effectiveness of a low-cost treatment for oral cancer
Michael Nolan, DVM, PhD; North Carolina State University

Santosh Mishra, PhD, Duncan Lascelles, BVSc, PhD, DACVS; North Carolina State University

Osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease) is a common in older cats, but few effective and safe treatments are available. This study will investigate a new pathway of pain associated with arthritis, which may lead to new therapies for this debilitating disease.

A Tip to Leave a Loving Legacy
For May 2018

There is a saying: "The only thing that doesn't change, is things will always change".  You should review and update your estate plan whenever there are significant changes in your circumstances or the law.  For example, older estate plans may include provisions to maximize Federal or state tax deduction or exemption amounts which may no longer be appropriate or necessary.

Winn has information available about planning for your estate and leaving a loving legacy on our website. Also, there also monthly planning and tax tips going back through 2015. You can view our Planned Giving page here.
