Sponsors will receive progress reports as they are available and copies of any publications that result from the project. Your help in sponsoring these projects means Winn can fund even more research next year and you are part of improving the health and lives of cats everywhere.
W18-010: Understanding genetic differences in immunity to FIP
(Bria Fund Study and New Feline Investigator Award)

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is caused by a coronavirus, only some infected cats get the disease. This study will examine how genetic differences in a cat's immune system play a role in this disease, and how common these differences are in the general cat population.
W18-019: Examining the effectiveness of a low-cost treatment for oral cancer
Michael Nolan, DVM, PhD; North Carolina State University
This study will examine the effectiveness of a simple treatment for oral cancer in cats with few side effects that could make treatment readily available, safe, and affordable.
W18-028: Investigating a new pain pathway associated with arthritis
Santosh Mishra, PhD, Duncan Lascelles, BVSc, PhD, DACVS; North Carolina State University
Osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease) is a common in older cats, but few effective and safe treatments are available. This study will investigate a new pathway of pain associated with arthritis, which may lead to new therapies for this debilitating disease.

Joan Miller was president of the Winn Feline Foundation for 16 year
s and served
for 20 years on the board of directors. She
has been involved in the cat fancy since 1970 and was a cat show judge for
32 years. And she was the recipient of the prestigious American Veterinary Medical Humane Award in 2017.

New York Cat Film Festival in Fort Worth, Texas
Buy your tickets for the May 26th showings
The New York Cat Film Festival is traveling the country with two 70-minute programs showing a medley of short cat films. After a great turnout for the show in Portsmouth, NH, the festival is planning for the same in Fort Worth, Texas on May 26th.
Winn Feline Foundation is proud to be named as the charitable beneficiary of the Cat Film Festival.

A Tip to Leave a Loving Legacy
For May 2018
There is a saying: "The only thing that doesn't change, is things will always change". You should review and update your estate plan whenever there are significant changes in your circumstances or the law. For example, older estate plans may include provisions to maximize Federal or state tax deduction or exemption amounts which may no longer be appropriate or necessary.
