On February 2, 2019, a request was filed with the County of Maui to increase the existing permit area to 4,098 acres.

When the amendment is completed we will move froward in the next phase of the expansion project and increase field exhibit displays,and seek bids for architectural design of a new exhibit hall.

At the same time, the Museum's original, 1980s exhibit gallery lighting was replaced with LED's under Hawaii Energy's "Energy Advantage" Program.
