Falguni & Ali Dewjee
When husband & wife team Falguni and Ali Dewjee opened
Bombay Wraps in 2010, they had one simple mission - to share with you the delicious, simple and fun street food they grew up eating in Bombay (Mumbai), India. Today this mission continues to burn bright, as they recently opened their 3rd location in Lakeview (3149 N Broadway St). Visit the other locations too: Loop (122 N Wells St), Streeterville (330 E Ohio St) and Food Truck (available for parties, events).
Food is a pivotal component of the Indian culture and there is no better way to express oneself and share the culture than through food.
Bombay Wraps has taken the best of Indian cooking - complex flavors, abundant variety and delicious slow cooked recipes and is delivering it to you in a familiar form - wraps, (sandwich) rolls and bowls that you can enjoy at the restaurant, work or your home. Half the menu is vegetarian as a nod to the plethora of vegetarian options available in India. In addition, Bombay Wraps also offer great tasting vegan, gluten free and halal options.
Protein and veggies are seasoned with Indian spices and served in a Wrap: flaky paratha flatbread or wheat roti, Roll: think lobster roll like bun or Bowl: basmati rice or fresh cut salad. Condiments (tomatoes & cucumbers, shredded lettuce & pickled onions) and sauces (cilantro mint, tikka masala, yogurt raita) are added to taste.
"A little about us, we both grew up in entrepreneurial families in Bombay (Mumbai), India. After coming to the US for our MBA's and working for various large and small companies we decided to return to our entrepreneurial roots - and opened Bombay wraps as a pioneer of fast casual Indian food in Chicago."

Restrictive Employee Scheduling Ordinance
The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce attended the Workforce Development Committee in opposition to the restrictive scheduling ordinance. Many business sectors were represented by hospitals, hotel and hospitality industry, IRMA, IRA and employees opposing the original proposed ordinance. There has been a
compromise with the Coalition and IL Restaurant Association that will exempt restaurants with 250 employees AND 30 locations worldwide as well as Franchisees (regardless of whether they are a restaurant) if they have less than 5 locations worldwide. The Committee deferred the meeting until May 20
th for more discussion and possible amendments. You can learn more about
Work Your Way here.
|
The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce testified at the License Committee this week to support an amendment to for an exemption for businesses located 100 feet of a place of worship or school to be able to obtain a liquor license without having to amend the State law and wait months for the Governor to sign the amendment. This process is a determent to start-up businesses and will still need the approval from local churches and schools as part of the approval process. The State will still regulate the liquor licensee and the only difference is the process is streamlined so it does not cause a financial burden on businesses. The Chamber worked with State Rep. Sara Feigenholtz and Alderman Tom Tunney to make SB2436 a home rule. The proposed amendment passed in Committee and will be presented at the next City Council meeting.
