New water charge rules from July 2020

Amendments to the Australian water market water charge rules will commence on 1 July 2020, designed to improve pricing transparency and make it easier for operators to comply. Operators’ existing water charge rules obligations will mostly continue under the new rules and information to help operators to comply with the amended rules is currently being developed by the ACCC.
The amendments are intended to:
  • make schedule of charges requirements clearer
  • simplify the calculation of termination fees, and
  • simplify the regulatory framework by largely returning the regulation of water infrastructure charges levied by on-river infrastructure operators back to Basin States.
Read details of the amendments here.

Submissions are invited on the exposure draft mandatory safety standard recommended by the ACCC, to inform a recommendation and advice to the Minister about its implementation.
Submissions are due by 5 pm, 10 June 2019, and all relevant documents are available here.
