The United Methodist Church of Evergreen
Pastor Russell Fletcher

Services at 8:30 & 10:30 am
Pentecost Sunday

Russell's Ritings....

I remember a pastor of a large church telling a story of his church and its new stained glass windows. One of the windows was to portray a dove, the symbol of Pentecost. The pastor and the Trustees had seen the preliminary drawings and all seemed okay.

The construction of the windows began. When they arrived and were installed they were really beautiful. Except one thing was wrong! The artist had crafted the dove going UP instead of DOWN, even though the original drawing clearly showed DOWN. The church did not accept the window and it had to be redone.

Even though we think UP is the direction we want the church to go, we remember this Sunday that the Holy Spirit came DOWN on Pentecost. May He also come DOWN on UMCE this Sunday!

I hope to see all of you on this BIG Sunday. A lot is going on. The most important aspect of the service will be Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the church. Also, we will recognize our graduating seniors, and we are really proud of all four of them. Plus, and it's a big, big plus, we celebrate Choir Sunday, the end of the season for our choir before a summer off. The choir will be singing four anthems Sunday, interspersed throughout the service. I know you will join me in thanking our great choir for all they do to bring quality music to our worship experience.

The sermon will be "Things We Need - SPIRIT" and the text is Acts 2:4. And it would be nice if we all wore something red, the liturgical color for Pentecost.

"and the folks are friendly"
Russell

BLESSING BAGS
A team from the UMCE Missions team is in the process of replenishing our supply of Blessing Bags containing items needed by homeless or other persons in need encountered on street corner or stop light.  Several items we try to include in each bag are travel sized containers of shampoo, conditioner and lotion.  If you are willing and able to collect these items as you travel, we would appreciate your bringing them to church and placing them in the Blessing Bag bin in the Giving Place corner of the Fellowship Hall.  This will save money and help us keep the cost of each bag lower.  Questions?  Call Bill Graf at Ph: 303-246-8330.

What or who can you trust? Money? Government? Education? Family? The Pharisee trusted himself, the publican trusted God. Trust is an element of faith. This parable teaches justification by faith through grace.
