A TORAH MESSAGE FROM THE RABBI

Passover begins next week on Friday, April 19th. The Seder is the most observed Jewish Ritual, with at least one survey saying that over 70% of Jewish people observe it. This is more than Yom Kippur (often referred to as the holiest Jewish day of the year), and Hanukkah.

The traditional Seder, as we know it today, is a very old ritual that dates back about 1500 years.   As a home-centered ritual, even though there are many prescribed rituals, there are many opportunities for personalization.

One way to do this is to give guests the opportunity to reminisce over Seders past. In the past, I have handed out a sheet with prompt questions and asked everyone present to answer one or two questions. The following is a non-exhaustive list of questions you mite pose:

  1. What is a favorite Passover or Seder memory?

  2. If you could invite anyone to your Seder, who would it be?

  3. What is your favorite part of the Haggadah narrative and why?

  4. What is your favorite Passover food? Have you had any unique food at Passover?

    5. Why do you think that Passover Seder attracts more Jews each year than any other occasion, including Yom Kippur?

  6. Have you ever spent Passover out of town? If so, where, and how did it feel?

  7. Please share a childhood memory from Seders of your youth?

  8. At the beginning of the Seder the Four Questions are recited. If you were
asked to write a fifth Question what would it be?

9 . Do you have a favorite Passover Seder ritual object - Seder Plate, Kiddush Cups, Matzah cover, etc?

10 . Egypt could be symbolic of a bad place or thing that negatively impacts us. Do you have an "Egypt" that you would like to be freed from?

Bonus Question: What is your favorite Passover wine?

If you have questions about Passover or your Seder, or you need suggestions, please feel free to reach out to me. Have a wonderful and meaningful Passover with your family and friends gathered around your table!!

Shabbat Shalom - Rabbi Michael S. Jay

SALE OF CHOMETZ

In many Jewish comm-unities, the rabbi signs a contract with each congregant, assigning the rabbi as an agent to sell their chametz. The practice is convenient for the congregation and ensures that the sale is binding by both Jewish and local law.

Attached is a contract with Rabbi Jay for selling of your chometz:
