ALERT: Demand Action to Lower Lumber Costs
Tariffs on imported Canadian softwood lumber are raising production costs and harming home buyers. With prices above $500 per thousand board feet, we need a solution to protect the home building industry and consumers.

PG&E and BIA to Meet On Gas Test
PG&E gas certification manager Josaphine Buennagel will meet with BIA|Bay Area members to discuss concerns about a new gas certification test that will become mandatory for all field employees as of July 1, 2018. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on May 24, 2018, at PG&E's San Ramon Valley Conference Center, 3301 Crow Canyon Road in San Ramon. The event is restricted to BIA members only. BIA Unveils Impact Fee Study
Home-builders and developers know firsthand that excessive development impact fees contribute to the high cost of housing in California. Experts at the Legislative Analyst's Office and just about everywhere else agree. But how is the public to really know where those dollars are going, if they are being spent wisely or if the fees are justified? BIA|Bay Area set out to try and answer those questions and more in its newly released report, "San Francisco Bay Area Development Impact Fees: Can You -- Can Anybody? -- Follow the Money?"  Full Story
Election 2018: Measure L in Lafayette
Lafayette voters will decide on June 5, 2018, whether to affirm the city's prior approval of The Homes at Deer Hill, a 44-unit single-family development on 22 acres north of Highway 24 that features 11 acres of parks, new public trail, parking lot across from Acalanes High School with student drop-off area, sports field and a 3-acre dog park. Full Story
Developers Eligible for Veterans Funding
In an effort to assist California veterans find stable affordable housing, the California Veterans Housing and Homelessness Prevention Program will award $75 million to qualifying developers and nonprofit entities to construct, acquire, rehabilitate or preserve affordable multifamily housing for veterans and their families. El Cerrito Set To Adopt Inclusionary Rule
El Cerrito is expected to finalize its inclusionary housing ordinance this week and adopt regulations that will, for the first time in this city, require developers to set aside a percentage of their units for low income families. The regulation requires for-sale residential developers to provide as affordable 12 percent of the project on-site. An in-lieu fee is permitted only for fractional units. Rental residential developers must provide 10 percent of the units on-site or they may pay a $17 per sq. ft. in-lieu fee.  Full Story
Redwood City New Affordable Housing Requirements and Density Bonus Update
The repercussions of the adoption of AB 1505 continue in the South Bay as more cities take advantage of the state law authorizing cities to apply inclusionary requirements on rental projects,. At its May 21, 2018 meeting, the Redwood City Council will consider new requirements for the provision of affordable housing with the construction of residential housing projects.  Full Story
San Jose Urban Village Implementation
Seven years after the adoption of its Envision 2040 General Plan, the City of San Jose takes a step closer to developing its urban village centered general plan. At the May 22, 2018 City Council hearing Council will be considering the adoption of a resolution approving the Urban Village Implementation and Amenity Framework (Framework) to further the implementation of the Urban Village General Plan Major Strategy and the individual Urban Village Plans.  Full Story

Ruby's Place Playground Dedication!
Last week, we celebrated the completion of Ruby's Place playground and new soccer field with HomeAid partners vanderToolen Associates, BrightView, HEDCO, Ghilotti, Miracle Play Systems and District Attorney Nancy O'Malley and Hayward Mayor Halliday! The entire project cost of $200,000 was covered with grants and donations! Thank you all for creating a wonderful new outdoor space for the children at the domestic violence shelter!
