A Note From Pastor Linda
"LORD, save us! LORD, grant us success! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD." ~Psalm 118:25-26
Dear Church Family - Hosanna!
During the Season of LENT we have been focusing on the 7 Last Words of Jesus from the
Cross.
As we draw closer and closer to the final words, it has become more and more apparent that Jesus is dying- and that these final words are very important for us to hear. On Sunday we back up and witness Jesus entering Jerusalem, riding on a donkey. We will shout HOSANNA
and raise our
Palm Branches
!
Our English word HOSANNA comes from a Greek word "hosanna" which comes from a Hebrew phrase
hoshiya
na.
That Hebrew phrase is found in Psalm 118:25 where it means, "Save, please!" It is a cry to God for help. Like when you jump into the deep end of the pool only to realize you can't swim and you come up hollering, "Help! Save me...
Hoshiya na
!"
Something
happened to that phrase,
hoshiya
na.
In the psalm
it was immediately followed by the exclamation: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! The cry for help,
hoshiya na
, was answered almost before it came out of the psalmist's mouth. Over the centuries this
phrase became a shout of hope and
triumph
and joy- gradually meaning,
"Salvation has come!"
It used to be what you would say when you jumped in that de
e
p end... but it came to be what you would say when you see the lifeguard coming to save you! It is the bubbling over of a heart that sees hope and joy and salvation on the way and cannot keep it in.
Jesus enters
-
and we say
Hosanna!!
We
follow... we simply cannot keep up with him on this day...
he will stop at the temple... in the upper room... in the garden...
the high priest's house... and the cross. At the cross we will hear his final two words for us: It is finished
.-
and - Father, into your hands I
commend my spirit. With that,
Jesus will bow his head and give up his spirit. Will we still be
raising our Palms and
shouting, Hosanna
?!

Everyone knows a whole new world opens up for families when a child receives their driver's license. New expectations, new privileges, new freedoms, and new worries all come into play. What better time to come together as a family to talk through the new expectations and privileges, as well as to pray and ask for guidance.
