Mayor's Message
The first few months of 2018 have brought exciting changes and a new energy to the community. I'm proud of the foundational work we've accomplished and  initiatives underway. They include:

Pursuing Home Rule Governance
Moving from a statutory city to a home rule city allows Castle Pines more independence to better manage our revenue sources and local infrastructure. (Learn more at
castlepinesgov.com/home-rule.)

Economic and Community Development
As a community, we are the beneficiaries of the success of our businesses. It's our job as local government to define our community values, welcome and sup port local businesses, and guide development that contributes positively to those ideals.

Increas ed Community Engagement
Pursuing home rule will give the City more direct management over our revenue sources. Thoughtful economic development efforts will also bolster our local economy. These two initiatives will help provide context as we revisit the important conversation about community wants and needs and how to fund them.

In the coming weeks, the City will launch a new community engagement platform, Engage Castle Pines, where we can define and discuss what makes Castle Pines special and how we preserve and expand upon our unique characteristics. The new platform will be an interactive tool for residents to share ideas and engage with City officials.

We should all be proud of the City we are building. As your Mayor, I'm excited about our future, too. I hope that you'll continue to engage with us as we focus on the lasting success of this great community.

Sincerely,
Mayor Tera Radloff

Rattlesnake Activity Increases in Spring
Tips to Avoid a Potentially Dangerous Rattlesnake Encounter
When spring temperatures rise, rattlesnakes venture outside their den in search of food and warm weather. This also means that human and pet encounters with rattlesnakes are more prevalent this time of year.

While enjoying local parks and trails, keep your eyes and ears open for the signs of rattlesnake activity, and follow these tips:
  • Look and Listen: Keep your eyes on the ground and listen for the rattlesnake's signature rattle.
  • Don't just rely on the rattle: Rattlesnakes have been known to remain silent, even when threatened, so don't rely exclusively on sound to detect a rattlesnake.
  • Obey Trail Signs: Trail signs identify areas where there is known rattlesnake activity and/or dens.
  • Be Mindful of Temperature and Time of Day: Rattlesnakes are most active between 50 and 80 degrees and during early morning, and evening hours.
  • Stay on Trails: Trails typically have little or no ground cover where snakes like to hide. If a rattlesnake is on the trail, you'll have an easier time spotting them and can avoid the area.

Lock it or Lose it

Communities throughout Douglas County have seen an increase in vehicle break-ins over the last few months. Popular target locations include residential neighborhoods and community park parking lots and open space trailheads.

Cash, purses, wallets, jewelry, computers, and cell phones - especially when left in plain view - are favorable targets for burglars.

To avoid becoming a victim, follow these tips:
  • Hide/secure valuables before reaching your destination, or take them with you upon arrival
  • Don't leave keys or garage door openers inside your vehicle
  • Close your garage door
  • Report suspicious activity
