NIH research and NYCPM's Student Wellness Partner Up
NYCPM's Professor in Pre-Clinical Sciences, Peter Barbosa, PhD, and his collaborator from Mount Sinai, Dr. Jeffrey Weiss, recently completed a two-year NIH-sponsored research project exploring mindfulness in persons living with HIV. After the project was completed, the yoga mats used in the study needed a new home, and Barbosa and Weiss decided to donate them to NYCPM's new student club, the Wellness Club. Michelle Pham, Class of 2021, is not only a club member but also a yoga instructor and has been facilitating yoga sessions for students. IPC Students Create Spanish Guide as Fundraiser for Medical Mission
To raise funds for their late June medical mission to the Dominican Republic, members of the International Podiatry Club (IPC) created a literally pocket-sized Spanish Podiatric Medicine Pocket Guide (2018). Meant to fit into a lab-coat pocket, the diminutive booklet translates basic vocabulary, then addresses common medical terms and common diabetic foot terms, before translating questions that are meant to start conversations in Spanish with patients (and not take the place of a formal translator).

In the photo, are Spanish Guide creators and IPCers, left to right, Jennifer Chow, Kawsar Ibrahim, Thi Pham, Ronika Kaur and Jose Grullon.
