SF Bay Area Jobs-Housing Imbalance Continues
Three months into its eighth year, Plan Bay Area is still failing to produce measurable improvements in the San Francisco Bay Area's dismal jobs-housing imbalance. Since 2011, the nine-county region has issued building permits for 145,922 homes but added 629,400 jobs.  Full Story
Walnut Creek Showcases Specific Plans
The Walnut Creek Development Services Forum will showcase pending North and West Downtown Specific Plans as the featured topic on May 9, 2018. The monthly meeting will be held form 7:45 a.m.-9 a.m. in the City Council chamber in City Hall, 1666 N Main St. in Walnut Creek. City senior planners Jeanine Cavalli and Andrew Smith will share draft plan highlights and answer questions.   Full Story
Bay Area Average Commute Hits 32 Minutes
The average Bay Area worker spends 32 minutes traveling to work each morning, according to the most recent statistics reported by the   Metropolitan Transportation Commission's Vital Statistics web page . That may explain why telecommuting rates hit an all-time high in 2016. But the average commute is only one part of the story. When it comes to extreme commutes, Contra Costa, Solano and Alameda counties stand out - nearly one in four commuters travel more than one hour to get to work each day. We all know why commute times are growing. Families must travel farther and farther from job centers to find homes they can afford, forcing them into these grueling commutes.
Union City Revisits Affordable Regs
Union City staff will recommend to the City Council on May 8, 2018, changes to the city's affordable housing ordinance that would require residential rental developers to build units for low-income households within their projects but provide a by-right in-lieu fee option to for-sale developers.
