Commerce City is offering another advantage to retailers looking to do business in the city and serve a rapidly growing population. City Council recently passed Resolution 2019-53, waiving select development-related fees for certain new commercial development. Applicable commercial development includes eating and drinking establishments, recreation or amusement facilities, and visitor accommodations. The aim of the resolution is to attract new commercial development, improve the quality of life for city residents and create new employment opportunities as part of the "Ready for Retail" campaign. A similar resolution was passed earlier in the year for full-service, sit-down restaurants. The city is looking for development partners to provide retail services to its rapidly growing areas in both the historic city and the northern range. Some exclusions do apply. City representatives met with retailers and retail real estate professionals at the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) annual conference, RECon. The conference attracts over 30,000 attendees and is the largest commercial real estate event in the world. City representatives met to build relationships with developers, retailers, and commercial brokers; many who may not have otherwise been aware of the retail development opportunities in Commerce City. Panda Express, King Soopers, Walgreens, Perfect Teeth, and 7-Eleven are all successful endeavors in Commerce City that have been facilitated by relationship building at past RECon meetings. Staff members also took the opportunity to thank some of the new businesses coming to the city, including Panda Express and Wendy's.

Commerce City's Economic Development Division joins Adams County Economic Development (ACED) and other Adams County economic development professionals to host national site selection professionals for a three-day summit July 23-25, 2019. In its third year, the summit is a way to promote the region as an ideal location for corporate relocation and expansion projects. Businesses and individuals will also be able to attend the Summit's final breakfast Thursday, July 25. The breakfast will be a chance to have the site selectors share their feedback on the strengths of the North Metro area, challenges the local communities may face and how best to elicit more business relocations or expansions in Adams County.
