Update from the Executive Director

Last spring, Mill City Commons offered a 3-month Trial Membership opportunity to people interested in "trying on" membership. It was highly successful, as 13 of the 14 trial members went on to convert to a full membership!

This opportunity is being offered once again to anyone interested in learning more about our organization, its benefits, programs and members at a significantly reduced rate. The 3-month period begins July 1 and ends September 30. For all the details on this remarkable opportunity, click here! Interested? Please send us an email at  [email protected]!

Looking for a fun outing this evening? Check out the Capri Glee! community concert at the Capri Theater. It's free and open to the public. Two guest choirs, The Mill District Singers and MacPhail Community Youth Choir, will also perform! Details  here.

What would spring in Northeast Minneapolis be without Art-A-Whirl? Check out MCC members' incredible studios (listed below under News from Members), and after you've spent the afternoon touring various artists' studios, consider taking in one of the dozens of live indoor/outdoor concerts scheduled over the course of the weekend. You also may want to sample a micro-brew or two! For a complete listing of music venues, click  here.

Great Decisions: China & America: The New Geopolitical Equation
Monday, May 21, 7:00 - 8:30 pm
DeLaSalle High School, 1 DeLaSalle Dr, Room D104
In the last 15 years, China has implemented a wide-ranging strategy of economic outreach and expansion of all its national capacities, including military and diplomatic capacities. Where the United States has taken a step back from multilateral trade agreements and discarded the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), China has made inroads through efforts like the Belt and Road Initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). What are Beijing's geopolitical objectives? What leadership and political conditions in each society underlie growing Sino-American tensions? What policies might Washington adopt to address this circumstance? Speaker Richard Bohr is an Emeritus Professor and Director of Asian Studies, College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University. He holds a Ph.D. in Modern Chinese History and has devoted his professional career to promote relationships between Americans and Asians.

Registration on the MCC website is required for Great Decisions members.  Sorry, not open to guests; to join the MCC Great Decisions Discussion Group, email Betsy Wray at [email protected].
