Don't forget to wear
red!
|
Pentecost is the birthday of the church, and all are encouraged to
wear red
as a symbol of the power and fire of the Holy Spirit. It will be a full day of celebrations and activities not the least of which is the annual Pentecost BBQ Picnic and the "mile-long" banana split (for the little ones.)
Once again there will be a delicious
barbeque
lunch with all the fix-in's
after the 10:00 a.m. service. If you can't stay, you may have a plate to go. A $10 per person or $25 per family donation is requested. This year the food will be provided by Smoke n Aces BBQ.

No Sunday School on Pentecost
May 20, 2018
On this festive Sunday we invite all children to join their families in church. While there will not be Sunday school, there will be nursery from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m. The whole family will love the Parish Picnic and the "mile-long" banana split, so plan to stay for the festivities after the 10:00 a.m. service.

Day School Sunday on Pentecost
May 20 - 10:00 a.m. service
This Sunday we
celebrate our shared
ministry of Christ Church Day School
and the contribution it makes to our community and to the lives of the children and families it has served for 60 years. Day School students and alumni will serve as our lectors, intercessors and ushers.
The wonderful works of art created by Christ Church Day School students, under the tutelage of Mrs. Leslie Koshland, will be on display in Hinde Hall after both church services on Sunday, May 20. Day school docents will be on hand to fill you in on this comprehensive art program. Don't miss out on the exceptional exhibits; schedule time to browse and enjoy the talented children we have in our midst.

You're going to want one!

Our talented fifth grade students have created beautiful, amazing seascapes that will be on sale on Sunday. These oil paintings are remarkable. All sale proceeds will go to support the fifth grade's project to build a much-needed well in the Sudan.

Have You Heard?
Att: Royal Wedding Watchers
|
|
|
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry
|
It might be worth getting up at the crack of dawn this Saturday to watch the royal wedding in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Our Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will preach at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle; an historic event to be sure.
Episcopal News Service
reports, "
The invitation from the couple to Curry to preach at the service is a departure from tradition for British royal weddings." Get out your tea cups, plop some clotted cream on your scone and be sure to tune in. Check your local listings for times.

Veterans Support Program
Help veterans get jobs
The
Easter Seals Bob Hope Veterans Support Program
provides one-on-one employment services, as well as referrals to other resources, to meet the unique needs of military personnel and veterans transitioning out of the military into a civilian job, starting their own small business or pursuing higher education.
Since launching in 2014, the program has served over 1,100 veterans and families with employment support and referrals to other resources, placing more than 625 into civilian positions and 87 pursuing education goals.
During a week-long campaign between May 23-29, Vons, Albertsons, and Pavilions shoppers throughout Southern California may make donations in support of the program via the pin pad at registers, with
100% of the donations going to the program. Your contributions directly support our service members and veterans right here in Coronado that benefit through these services!

Geoff Graham
|
Each Sunday we are graced with the beautiful music our organist Geoff Graham makes on our newly restored pipe organ. A wonderful instrument played by such a professional. The Sunday music includes a prelude, hymns, offertory, and
the piece you might be missing...the postlude
. We know that everyone has been sitting for a while, you want to chat with your friends and neighbors, and most importantly rush out for your coffee and doughnut. But, if you take a few minutes to sit quietly in your seat you will be treated to one of the best musical pieces of the entire morning. Give it a try; cool your heels, close your eyes and enjoy.

|
Thanks for the help.
|
THANKS SO MUCH for your support of the ECS diaper drive over the past two weeks! Over 2,800 diapers were donated and will go a long way to help the 2,250 moms Episcopal Community Services serves each year; what a great way to bless some of them this Mother's Day!
ECS has been an extension of the Episcopal Church, working with San Diegans who are often overlooked or forgotten, for more than 90 years. Christ Church has been a strong partner of our work since the early days, and you are part of this partnership!
Please check out the video celebrating our 90 years of service; watch an inspiring video about two of our clients, Ricky and Catherine,; and sign up for their email list . Thank you again for your generous support!
