D2L Sunset - What You Need to Know
As the UW System migrates from D2L to Canvas, we will be sunsetting D2L. This means that as of June 2019, we will no longer offer any courses through D2L.

Here is a timeline of important milestones:
  • June 2019: All courses will be taught in Canvas. There will no longer be any courses taught through D2L.
  • January 2020: All D2L content will need to be exported and saved by January 2020.
  • June 2020: All access to D2L will be removed. Faculty, staff, students, and LMS administrators will permanently lose all access to D2L.

Save your D2L content!
  • Export content from D2L locker. If you use the D2L locker, make sure that you are downloading all of that content and storing it on your computer or OneDrive.
  • Export and save your ePortfolio using mydesire2learn.
  • Double check everything. Make sure you have all of your content stored on your computer and/or OneDrive.

Please note, we will be sending additional communication about the sunset as we near the end of the semester. We are just sending this initial communication now to make you aware that D2L is going away soon. Look for more communication in April and May.
All Courses in Canvas after July 1
All UW-Parkside courses will be hosted in Canvas after the first four-week summer session.

If you have anything you want to save from D2L, please read the above section and makes sure you do so! When you come back to Parkside this fall, all of your courses will be using Canvas.

If you're unfamiliar with Canvas, please consult the Canvas walk-through tutorial , or self-enroll in our student Canvas course .

Canvas also has a number of resources housed on the Canvas Guides that give you step-by-step directions on how to use the various tools within the LMS.
The Tamagotchi Effect: How digital pets shaped the tech habits of a generation
A new article from Digital Trends looks at the significance the Tamagotchi had on a generation.

Students today likely grew up with toys at least somewhat infiltrated with artificial intelligence.

The article looks at the ways Tamagotchis prepared us for the world of social media. Instead of obsessing about a "pet" in a piece of technology, we now obsess over attention-grabbing through social media.

"Finally, they acclimated us to a world in which carrying around devices wherever we go is the norm," the article states.

"Today, the kids who were pre-teens when Tamagotchis made their debut are in their late twenties or into their thirties. They are almost all smartphone owners, and many likely contribute to the 73% of adults who report experiencing anxiety if they are temporarily separated from their phones. They most likely do not question a world in which our availability at all times is almost assumed. The distracting beeps of Tamas have been replaced by the vibrating of a smartphone in the pocket."
