In a time of increasing demands on transportation, energy, water, and human capital - Frederick is working hard to be smart, sustainable, and resilient. We are working to create an enduring and balanced city for existing and future populations, including for particularly vulnerable groups. For our city to prosper, we are partnering with residents and businesses to prevent, withstand, and recover from major disruptions due to economic downturns, industry shifts, natural or human caused disasters, and climate change. The City has focused on purchasing green power, providing tax credits for redeveloping existing buildings and for developing new green LEED certified buildings, planting trees, managing storm-water, and making Frederick pedestrian and bicycle friendly. Frederick is seeking to be an urban leader in family-supporting jobs, affordable workforce housing, convenient transit, and energy efficiency.
This issue of the Business in Frederick E-News highlights efforts here in Frederick to grow smart, green, and resilient. Learn about Fredericks’s Sustainability Manager Jenny Willoughby and programs available for energy conservation assistance, commercial solar panel installations on Frederick businesses, tech energy management startups, locally sourced food products and more. April is Water Conservation Month and Frederick is joining cities across the country to encourage water customers to conserve and reduce pollution.

Common Market, a community-owned organic and natural foods grocery store, announced its purchase of the former Safeway location on W. 7th Street. We caught up with General Manager Bob Thompson and Troy Sexton, the Category & Advertising Manager, to
