Bible Text: Luke 19:29-48
This Sunday we read the Gospel of Luke's account of the arrival of Jesus into Jerusalem. It is also the beginning of Holy Week - a week that culminates with the empty tomb and the stories of the Risen Christ on Easter Sunday. As New Testament and Jewish Studies scholar Dr. Amy-Jill Levine writes, "Holy Week is a time to think about risk, because that's what this whole Passion narrative represents... These are stories not only of Judas and Peter, of John and James; they are our stories as well. Who stands firm and who runs? What happens when you run? And what can we do, now that we have failed ourselves and others, to find that 'at one-ment' again? We know it is possible to find this reconciliation, because the God of grace makes it possible."

Entering the Passion of Jesus
I hope you will attend worship this Sunday, Palm Sunday, as we read the story of Jesus bravely entering the city of Jerusalem long ago for the fate that would greet him. The story continues and there are services on Thursday (FCC), Friday (FUMC) and Sunday (Combined FCC/FUMC at 10:00 on April 21st) to navigate us through this ancient and holy journey that is called the Passion Narrative. We will find ourselves among the others who take this the journey. Hopefully, we will also find our God as well.

Church School
will be led by Jeff Tyler and Roberta White this Sunday in our main office space on the 3rd floor - room 302 at the top of the stairs.
After worship, please grab a quick cup of coffee and head to Grant Park!! We will not be having a coffee hour onsite this Sunday as all are headed to the park, just 1 mile east of here. The Egg Hunt starts promptly at 1:00 (it's hard to keep the eggs from being plucked up once they are distributed on the grassy area!).
Bring: your Easter Basket if you wish to participate in the hunt, potluck food (please be in contact with Lu Burd to let her know what you can bring), and any cash offering you wish to give to the 21 Easter baskets that we are making for the children and youth who are staying at the Ronald McDonald house as they receive medical treatment. Thanks to Lu Burd, Membership and our Church School Teachers for coordinating this effort. Supplies and items for the baskets have been purchased and we will assemble them at the park. Please give cash donations to Krysty Leckrone or Roberta White.
In addition to the egg hunt and food, we will also have a few games and time to linger and connect with one another all afternoon at the park. The park is fully accessible, we have tables reserved for our group, and there are restrooms nearby. Wear your FCC Church T-shirt and join us! There is also the Ginger Corner Market directly across the street in case you need an extra cup of coffee or a latté!
This is also the last Sunday to order your Easter lilies and tulips. Please send Nina an email with your order, along with your dedication wording

Holy Week Schedule:
Maundy Thursday April 18th
6:00 p.m. gather for our simple soup supper (6 soups needed - let Pastor Marlene know), followed by a simple worship service at 7:00 p.m. Both events to be held in the FUMC Fellowship Hall.
Good Friday Service April 19th at 7:30 p.m. sponsored by FUMC in their chapel
Saturday April 20th 9:00 a.m. rehearsal in the FUMC Sanctuary for all folks participating in the Easter worship service (liturgists, Communion servers, pastors)
Easter Worship Sunday April 21st
9:00-9:50 Easter Breakfast served on the lawn in front of FUMC. Bring something to share if you wish. We will also assemble the Living Flower Cross so bring a few fresh blooms to adorn the cross. FUMC is using their cross and overseeing this, so join in the fun as we decorate together.
10:00 Combined FCC/FUMC Easter Worship Service in the Sanctuary with combined choirs, our soloists, Connie on the piano, brass and the FUMC organ. Should be a grand Easter celebration together!
11:15 Following Worship: Youth can help hide eggs while others enjoy coffee and crafts in the outside Cloister together. Then the Easter Egg hunt will take place followed by Easter Brunch at 11:45. Suggested donation is $8. Please contact FUMC to make a lunch reservation at(626) 796-0157.
The deadline has now passed and we have received over 35 applications this year (almost doubled from last year!). The Committee is now looking through all the applications and will schedule interviews with several women once they have narrowed down their search. Please keep the committee in your prayers as they deliberate - Grace Rinck (Chair), Mary Camacho, Krysty Leckrone, Sue Miele, Pastor Marlene Pomeroy and Bettie Teel. The recipients will be honored at our Annual Scholarship Tea, to be held on Saturday May 11th at 4 p.m. in the FUMC Fellowship Hall. You should be receiving an invitation soon - please RSVP and plan to attend this wonderful event that supports and helps local women. We have set aside $10,000 this year to be granted to several women as they pursue their educational dreams.
