How Folktales Teach Us to Be Human
- Milbre Burch
The stories we hear in our culture of birth are meant to teach us how to be human, but in time we may hunger for other narratives. Traditional tales can expand our experience, our perspective and our vision of what's possible and who gets to live happily ever after.
Internationally-known storyteller and playwright Milbre Burch began her career in Rhode Island more than thirty years ago.
This month's Circle Potluck Dinner
The Circle Pot Luck Dinner for November will be on November 30, the last Saturday of the month. What's a Circle Pot Luck? Check it out on the UUCSC website!
Hearty helpers needed
The Facilities Committee is seeking some hearty helpers for installation of tall, sturdy handicap parking signs. Are you hearty? Can you help? Please contact Sally Barney.
MMLP needs volunteers on Saturday
Music 'n' More at Lily Pads needs volunteers to help with set-up and clean-up for "Tales from Beyond the Ban," featuring storyteller Milbre Burch, on Saturday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. Homemade refreshments would be nice, too. Call Johnnie Rodriguez at 789-0651.
Would you like to dance?
The Christmas Eve Eve Candle light processional is an opportunity to bring dance into the worship service as an offering of prayer. It's a beautiful, serene element of our evening service. Dancers will rehearse three times beginning on Tuesday, November 19 at 4:30 p.m. Open to everyone age 10 or older. If you’re interested, e-mail Sally Barney or call her at 789-0723.
Support for aging in place
Have you heard about the “village” concept of creating communities to support older people who want to remain in their own homes? A discussion will take place after the service on Sunday, November 17 with members of “ A Community Together” to explore opportunities for aging in place. For more information, call Sue Strakosch at 782-2797 or 218-7929.
Is your jewelry box overflowing?
Do you have rings, necklaces, pins, bracelets, costume jewelry, or fine silver or gold jewelry that you can donate for sale at the jewelry table at the Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday, December 7? Get in touch with Mary Alice Kimball, Jean Bowen, or Cindy Berry. For more information, go to the Holiday Fair page on the UUCSC website.
A victim of its own success . . .
Thanks to the generosity of UUCSC members and friends, the ongoing book sale in the Oneto Community Room has netted more than $400 this year. But donations far exceed available shelf space--- more than a thousand books are stored off-site. So no more donations will be accepted until further notice.
