This Week at Charlotte Lab School
Dear Lab Families,

What an amazing year this has been! I am so proud of all that our Lab students and faculty have accomplished and so grateful to everyone who has helped make this year so successful. Our staff is the most dedicated, talented, and passionate group of people that I have ever had the opportunity to work with and I am thankful for each member of the team. I also want to express gratitude for all members of the Lab community for their belief in our vision, faculty, and community. We couldn't have accomplished all we did without you!

Tomorrow we will hold our Year-End Celebrations: Carnival and Field Day at the Lower School and Lab Olympics at the Middle School. These events are a cherished time for students and staff to be active, have fun, and enjoy non-academic time together. Please remind your child that tomorrow is a non-uniform day and students should wear their advisory's field day colors.

Wednesday is a half day and dismissal is at 12:30 pm at both campuses. There is no after school programming. It is a regular uniform day at the middle school, and lower school students may dress comfortably for organizing and cleaning (uniforms not required). Have a wonderful summer break and get rested and ready for next year! See you in the fall!

Sincerely,

Dr. Mary Moss
Executive Director
TOP STORIES
Summer Reading List and #LABSUMMERCHALLENGE
We are excited to share our Summer Reading List and #LabSummerChallenge. This Lab tradition aims to encourage students to continue to nurture their joy of learning, designing, exploring, and creating all summer long.

Lower School List: Aside from reading the 1-2 required books, which will be used to support advisory activities early in the year, there are no grades or due dates for this challenge. We're excited for this chance to see what our kids can do and how they can inspire us and each other! Post photos and videos on FB/Instagram/Twitter with #LabSummerChallenge.

Middle School List: Required books will be used to launch advisory in the fall. Additionally, students will choose two or more books from a list of high-interest texts to keep them engaged and reading all summer. Students will keep a reading log so teachers can see their selections and progress and complete a written reflection of their thoughts about their chosen texts. This is due the first day of school.
Final Progress Report Update
Per last week's enews, students’ final progress report and relevant grade level reports (CogAT, EOG, Spring MAP, STAMP) were mailed home on Friday with the exception of 5th grade's, which were mailed home today once we received all of the Science EOG reports from the NC Department of Public Instruction. Remember that no math scores were sent home due to a system-wide delay across the state. You can expect to receive math scores sometime in August. If your child had to complete any make-up tests, you will receive the scores sometime in June. Please be on the look-out for this envelope and let us know if you have questions.
Time to Order School Supplies
Don’t want to fight the back-to-school crowds in August? Order your school supplies for next year now! For best pricing, go to the Edukit website and search for Charlotte Lab School (be sure to choose your child's grade level for next year).

Your child's supply kit includes the exact teacher requested supplies and ships directly to the school before the first day of class if ordered before June 20. Supply kits will be delivered to both Lower School and Middle School campuses. Last chance orders placed from June 21 - August 1 will be delivered to your home before school begins, and will incur an additional fee.

If you choose to purchase school supplies on your own, please bring them to the Meet the Teacher night in August (dates will be published over the summer). View the lists for grades Lower School (K-5) and Middle School (6-8).

Please consider donating a supply kit for a Lab friend in need. Select the kit you would like to donate and at checkout in the "Name" field, write "Scholarship Kit."

WELLNESS CORNER
Safe and Eco-Friendly Suncare
It’s hard to believe we’re in our last week of school and that summer vacation is officially here! This means lots of fun in the sun and protecting our skin from harmful rays of the sun is important. Many chemicals used in traditional sunscreen are linked to allergies, respiratory issues, hormone disruption and skin irritation. Not to mention, Oxybenzone, one of the most common chemicals in sunscreen causes coral reef bleaching and hurts our oceans and marine life. The safest sun care products for our families AND the environment are those that are mineral-based (Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide). Read more
