| In Memory of Mark W. Mazurek |

Karen and Bill Mazurek established an endowed scholarship on May 19 in loving memory of their son Mark, who passed away on June 6, 2017. Mark attended St. Petersburg College and recently graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies.
His ambition was to attend law school and become a Lawyer. Mark truly loved the SPC experience along with the professional staff of educators that always challenged and motivated him during his educational journey. Throughout his life Mark experienced numerous hardships and medical challenges resulting from a brain tumor twice removed at the age of eleven. Against all odds, Mark persevered with a positive, caring outlook. He gravitated toward helping the underdog, stood up for victims of bullying and uplifted spirits with a helping hand, a smile or a corny joke.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to help a Paralegal Studies student offset some of the costs of attending SPC. In a small way, Mark's contagiously positive spirit and loving memory will always remain part of the College for years to come as this memorial scholarship continues to lend a helping hand to students in need.

Health Students Learn from Virtual Dissection Table

The SPC Health Education Center received a one-of-a-kind Anatomage Table in partnership with the National University of Health Sciences (NUHS). "It gives our students a rich understanding of anatomy and physiology and to be able to understand subjects such as pathophysiology, the disease process and be able to see in a virtual-type environment what a cadaver-type experience would be like," said Provost Dr. Eric Carver.
The Anatomage Table is the most technologically advanced virtual dissection table available for anatomy education. The Table's life-size display, clinical content and renowned imaging software separates it from any other anatomy education tool on the market.
Students are excited about the interactive, in-depth technology."I think it's pretty incredible. It's something that explains the body in-depth," said paramedic student Kevin Fisher. "What it provides for us is a more in-depth look at the human body and maybe more hands-on training."
The technology is taking students out of the textbook. "You can start at the very surface level and view the skin all the way down to the neurological level and to be able to use all the various body systems in between," said Dr. Carver.

SPC Students of Mexican Descent Receive Support

On May 21st, the Mexican Consulate in Orlando awarded the Foundation $12,000 to support scholarships for students of Mexican origin or descent. The Foundation matched the grant funds to total $24,000 that will be awarded to 24 students in the 2018-19 academic year. Clearwater Campus Provost Stan Vittetoe traveled to Orlando to thank the Consulate for their partnership which began in 2016.

Two SPC Mexican Consulate Scholarship recipients addressed the attendees of the 8th Annual InterCultural Advocacy Institute Luncheon giving thanks for community support and sharing the challenges they face as children of immigrants. After the students spoke to attendees, Veronica Cintron of Spectrum Bay News 9 addressed the students to share her story of overcoming obstacles and life circumstances to pursue a successful career.
Mexican Consulate Scholarship recipient Ruth Peña Vaquero says as a first generation student every bit of support will help her stay on track to graduate. "It means a lot to know that I have, not only my parents, but also other people supporting me throughout this whole college journey."

Students Gain Access to Additional Basic Necessities

A new way to support SPC students was created with the grand opening of the Titan's Belly food pantry on the Midtown Campus. The pantry is open to all SPC students and is designed to feel like a small grocery store. Titan's Belly joins Women on the Way (WOW) and a variety of other services offered by SPC that give relief to students who are struggling financially. Your donations are most welcome, see below for details.
