13 Reasons Why -- Season 2
Impressionable pre-teens and teenagers across the country watched the number one Netflix series last year: 13 Reasons Why . On Friday, May 18, Netflix will be releasing season two of the widely recognized show.

Tragically, some children across the country have committed self-harm and indicated that the series was the cause for that self-harm. According to Phyllis Alongi, the Clinical Director of the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide, "Research indicates a vivid description, real or fictional, of a suicide can contribute to and perpetuate sensationalism and glorification, which may lead to copycat suicide behaviors..." The Counseling Department is equipped and trained to identify marked risk factors as well as to recommend the next steps to students in need. In fact, we partner with a suicide awareness and prevention agency called With Hope--The Amber Craig Memorial Foundation. They visit CLHS on an annual basis to speak with students and parents. Click here to view additional resources and referral information. Thankfully, we also have a loving Savior who we can trust, pray to, and rely on. Our prayer at this time is that we may successfully partner together in ensuring that our students understand that support is available to them, both at home and at school. Please contact your student's counselor with questions and concerns.
Homework Center Closed During AP Testing
The after school Homework Center will be closed May 7- May 18 to allow peer tutors time to study and take AP exams.  Room 202 will remain open as a quiet place to work on homework, but peer tutoring will not be available. Tutoring will resume on May 22.

This is a great opportunity for high school students who have an interest in applying to one of the five U.S. Service Academies. Students and their families will gain an in-depth understanding of how the application process for each Academy works. Representatives from the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, Coast Guard Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, and Military Academy at West Point will be there to give presentations and answer questions.

Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to Donovan Higbee at (949) 263-8703 or [email protected].

Tip of The Week
I have stated this before, but this is an important enough point to restate... Make plans this summer !  Find a job, volunteer, visit colleges, explore a museum, do something extraordinary. Use this time wisely. The 2018-2019 school year will be here before you know it!
