  1. Essential Piece of the Puzzle Award

Tiffani Warren, the Dean of Learning at the College was selected as the May 2019 recipient of the Essential Piece of the Puzzle Award presented by Dr. Linfante on behalf of the Board of Trustees. Dean Warren was selected for her outstanding contributions to the College on behalf of the students, and her dedication to the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program.








2 . New Jersey Community College Scholars

Each year, the New Jersey Council of Community Colleges(NJCCC) honors New Jersey’s top community college students and their families during the New Jersey Community College Scholars Celebration. This event officially recognizes the members of the New Jersey All-State Academic Team, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for community colleges. This year’s Scholars Celebration was held on Wednesday, May 8 th at the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton.

Dr. Linfante and Dr. Austin congratulated students Arleen Molina and Brenda Haycock who were chosen to represent Warren County Community College on the 2019 NJ All State Academic Team based on their academics, leadership, and community service.

3. Fall Tuition and Fees


The Finance & Audit Committee had a thorough discussion of tuition charges for FY20 and discussed factors such as comparison of tuition and fees at other New Jersey Community Colleges. Dr. Gilly commended Ms. Pratt (college VP Finance & Operations) on an outstanding job in preparing the budget, as it was concise and easy to follow.

Dr. Austin noted that, when you factor in all the variables covered in the tuition and fees, including Cengage Unlimited, the cost of attendance at Warren County Community College is actually less than when he started at the College fifteen years ago.

5.State Budget Updates

Dr. Austin discussed his participation in the recent New Jersey State Higher Education budget hearings held at the state capital in Trenton with Board Members. Dr. Linfante shared a video clip of the Dr. Austin's speech during the hearing prior to the start of the Board meeting.

Dr. Austin was chosen by the New Jersey Council of Community Colleges to represent the 19 Community Colleges in New Jersey.


6. Board of Trustees Informational Tours/ Great Things Happening at WCCC Update

Dr. Austin, Dr. Linfante, and Board members are continuing their tour of Municipal Town Council meetings throughout the county. Board members are sharing the great things Warren County Community College has to offer with community members. They recently spoke at the Lopatcong and Oxford Township Council Meetings, highlighting the great things happening at the College.

Chairman Linfante, President Austin and Trustees continue to receive extremely positive feedback at the meetings they attend and look forward to continuing their journey throughout the county.

7.Graduate Awards Breakfast

18 Graduating Students were honored at the Graduate Awards Breakfast held before Commencement on May 18th.

Honored students and invited guests celebrated with a buffet breakfast during which the Graduate Awards were presented. Members of the WCCC Board of Trustees, President Austin, Faculty, Administration, and Staff were on hand to celebrate the significant achievements of the these deserving graduates. Among the award highlights, the Trustee Award was presented to Mahmoud Alminawi, The President's Award to Kora Flizack-Sloan, the Alumni Award to Alexander Sansone, and the Foundation Award was presented to Courtney McCottrey.

8.Nursing Pinning Ceremony



Dr. Frank Gilly, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, addressed the Nursing graduates, invited guests, and College Administration and Faculty at the 2019 Nursing Pinning ceremony held on Friday, May 17th under the tent on the Great Lawn at the College.

9. Commencement

The 32nd Commencement of WCCC was held May 18th on the Great Lawn at the College.

NJ Senators Doherty & Oroho, Assemblyman DiMaio, and Warren County Freeholders Sarnoski, Gardner, and Kern were among the honored guests in attendance.

Freeholder James R. Kern, a 2008 Alumnus of WCCC, addressed the students on behalf of the elected officials.

Keynote speaker Dr. Marc Abo and student speaker Tolulope Arogundade provided words of wisdom to the graduating students and their families.

Legislative Updates

Dr. Phil Linfante,
Board Chair

Dr. Linfante discussed the recent higher education budget hearings held in Trenton this past month.

Dr. Linfante reviewed with the Board his recent visits to other College Board of Trustee meetings throughout the state in his role as chair of the New Jersey Council of Community College.

The next Board of Trustees Meeting will be held at 6:30pm at the Phillipsburg Education Center, 445 Marshall St. on
June 26, 2019.
