Honestly it's been a while since I've dealt with training on this topic, but I found it exceptionally powerful, and interesting to see the crossover between different applications.

I thought the instructor was fantastic! Well organized, knowledgeable, and experienced.

I feel informed and like I took a lot away from this training. I enjoyed the interactive nature of the training!

Bystander Intervention Training
in Campbell County, Kentucky
Dr. Amanda Nickerson recently spent a full day each with 3rd, 6th, and 9th graders in the Campbell County school district. The students were nominated  by their peers as those who may be able to connect diverse social groups together. This interactive training focused on getting to know each other, bullying and how it happens, prevention strategies, bystander intervention, and ideas for how the students can use their social power for peace. This work is for a National Institute for Justice Comprehensive School Safety Initiative Grant. View a press release about the training here

Spread the Word to End the Word Campaign
On Wednesday, March 7, the Alberti Center will once again be participating in the "Spread the Word to End the R Word" (STW) Campaign. STW is a national effort to encourage people to stop using the word "retarded" and to realize the negative
connotation of this word. This campaign was started by the Special Olympics committee and is supported by parent groups, self-advocates, human service organizations, and many others who recognize the importance of thought before speech and how hurtful words can be. You can learn more about the STW campaign   here.  Please consider signing the pledge to stop using the "r-word" and follow Spread the Word to End the Word - WNY on Facebook  to join us on March 7!
