May Board of Directors Meeting
|
|
The Houston-Galveston Area Council's Board of Directors met on May 21, 2019. The consent agenda included approving funding to procure school buses for the HGACBuy program and emergency medical and rescue equipment for public services.
The Board of Directors approved a resolution recognizing the retirement of Alderman Terry Henley from the Board of Directors and funding for State Homeland and Security Program grant projects.

City of Meadows Place Alderman Terry Henley Retirement
|
|
On May 21, 2019 H-GAC recognized the City of Meadows Place Alderman Terry Henly's retirement from H-GAC's Board of Directors. Alderman Henley has served on the Board of Directors since May 1993.
His dedication to the work of the Houston-Galveston Area Council has been shown through his service to the Board of Directors on a broad range of regional concerns, including serving as Board Chair in 2002 and as Chair of the Legislative Committee. He also served on the Finance and Budget Committee, the Election Committee, and is an Ex-Officio member of the Gulf Coast Regional 9-1-1 Emergency Communications District Board of Managers.
We want to commended him for his distinguished service to his own and other local governments, the region, and the Houston-Galveston Area Council. The Houston-Galveston Area Council extends to him its gratitude for his service and wishes him continued success in all his future endeavors.

Hurricane Season is Here : Prepare with Together Against the Weather!
|
|
June 1, 2019 marked the beginning of the Gulf-Coast Hurricane Season. Together Against the Weather was created to help people with access and functional support needs to better plan and prepare for hurricanes here in our 13-county region.
The Together Against the Weather tool kit was developed to help overcome challenges experienced by the program’s targeted audiences and to encourage the formation of supportive partnerships in advance of a storm.
Together Against the Weather emphasizes partnership with community organizations, service agencies, family members, and other trusted support systems that help motivate hurricane preparation among access and functional support needs populations. The goal is to utilize existing relationships and one-on-one interactions to spur action and help overcome the overwhelming feelings associated with emergency preparation. Save the Date: Trash Bash March 28, 2020
|
|
Nearly 4,300 volunteers cleaned 153 miles of shoreline at 16 locations, collecting more than 56 tons of trash and 513 illegally dumped tires at the 26th consecutive River, Lakes, Bays 'N Bayous Trash Bash on March 30. After picking up trash, volunteers enjoyed educational exhibits to learn more about other common sources of water pollution.
Since 1994, almost 114,000 volunteers have cleaned up 2,331 tons of trash and 11,578 tires from waterways in the Galveston Bay watershed.

Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) Public Meeting - June 19
|
|
The UPWP is a two-year plan that identifies transportation and air quality planning activities that will be conducted during Fiscal Years 2020 and 2021 in the Houston-Galveston eight-county region. With planning projects being proposed across the region, this plan affects how you, your family, your neighbors, and loved ones move safely throughout our transportation system.
In order to create a transportation network that works for us all, we encourage feedback from our residents. Come, learn, and collaborate with us on making our region a better and safer place.
The UPWP meeting is June 19, at 5:30 pm. at H-GAC headquarters, 3555 Timmons Lane Houston, TX 77027. The

Our Great Region Awards Application Open Through July 31
|
|
The application is open through Wednesday, July 31. Plans, programs, projects, or polices that implemented or are implementing a strategy of the
Our Great Region 2040
plan within the 13-county H-GAC planning region in the past three years are eligible to apply.

2045 Regional Transportation Plan - Adopted May 24, 2019
|
|
The Houston-Galveston Area Council's Transportation Policy Council (TPC) adopted the 2045 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) on May 24. H-GAC held three successful rounds of public meetings and received more than 1,000 public comments.
Following TPC adoption, H-GAC staff will submit the conformity determination to the consultation partners; Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHA), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), and the Texas Commission for Environmental Equality (TCEQ); and transmit the adopted 2045 RTP to TxDOT and FHWA.
After federal review and comments, FHWA and US EPA will issue a letter finding 2045 RTP to be conforming to the air quality Standards. For more information visit
