His house is about 2500 sq. feet. A “good rule of thumb” estimation says this requires a 100,000 BTU furnace.
Because of the passive solar orientation, our SIPs envelope, and a few strategically placed electric heating units, we’re confident we can keep his house comfortable (through the worst Buffalo winter) with just 18,000 BTUs. Unfortunately, the smallest unit we can get is at 24,000 BTUs.
In other words, we’re going to install a 24,000 BTU system instead of a 100,000 BTU furnace.
Aggressive? You bet, and it may not work, but if we come even close to dropping 75,000 excessive BTUs we’ll consider it a big win. You’re talking about a much smaller unit, with cost savings on the install, the lifelong operation, and maintenance.
If you take full advantage of our product, a Timberbuilt home may be more affordable than you think — and we aim to prove it.
We’ll keep you posted.
