McMeen Students Win Free Books!
Thank you to all the students who helped us win the OverDrive E-Book Contest! On Monday, May 21 students will select books from a FREE Book Fair! Students will come with their class to select 6 books for free! This is an amazing prize and it will help students meet their summer reading goal. We are looking for volunteers to help set-up, help students find books and break-down this very special book fair. It is sure to be a fun day filled with excitement! If you are interested in helping your student's class or volunteering at this special book fair, please talk to your child's teacher.
An Amazing (FREE) Opportunity for You and Your Students:
Founded by Tattered Cover Book Store in 2018, the Colorado Children's Book Festival brings books to life, gets kids engaged in reading, and provides a fun-filled literary experience for children and parents alike. The public event will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Tattered Cover Colfax from 1pm - 3pm.This event is free, but you must register.

On Monday, May 21st, PTO is hosting a restaurant fundraiser at Ester's from 5 pm to 9 pm. 20% of sales benefits McMeen University. Mention McMeen or show the McMeen flier coming home in Thursday folders in order for us to receive the 20%.

The New Parent and Student Portal:
Beginning May 15, next week parents and students will have an opportunity to access a SNEAK PEEK of their NEW portals, just in time for the end of the school year! The SNEAK PEEK will include a view of the dashboard, the assignment gradebook, the report card, and On-Track to Graduate information. The fully redesigned portals will be available this summer to start the 2018-19 school year.

Calling all families and staff who would like a garden plot in the McMeen Community Garden! We have new Community Garden Leaders this year and they are seeking families, staff, neighbors and community members to be a part of the garden. There are nine plots left and it would be great to have as many staff and families as possible. It is a great way to connect with our community, grow your own organic vegetables and flowers AND contribute to a beautiful outdoor space on the McMeen Campus! Are you interested in gardening?
Have you been thinking about having a garden but don't know where to start? Or don't have a place to garden now?
The Community Activation for Prevention Study (CAPS) is looking for participants for a research study on community gardening and there are a few CAPS plots reserved at the McMeen Community Garden!
Participants must be at least 18 years old and be new to gardening or haven't gardened in the past 2 years.
Once enrolled you will 1) receive plants and seeds, and gardening education in 2018, OR 2) wait to garden and receive a DUG community garden plot, seeds, plants and gardening education in 2019. Financial compensation will be provided.

Zumba classes:
Come and join us at Zumba classes on Wednesdays in the Gym and Thursday in the Music Classroom at 4:30 pm. Classes are $3.00 dollar's
If your child rides the school bus, make sure you contact Transportation to get the most up-to-date information or if you have any question or concern @ 720-423-3200
Front Door in the am & pm:
Families for the safety of our students, please refrain from using the front door on Holly between 7:45 am - 8:00 am and at the end of the day between 2:45 pm - 3:05 pm. If you have an appointment with a staff member, you are permitted to enter through the doors on Holly between those hours. Parents should refrain from coming in the back of the school prior to the first bell at 7:58 am and after the late bell at 8:05 am. Thank you for help in making sure that we are keeping our building safe.
All students arriving after 8:05 am must enter through the doors on Holly. Remember students who arrive after 8:05 are considered tardy and will need to receive a tardy pass from the receptionist.
During inclement weather or on cold mornings where the temperature is 30 degrees or below, we will bring students inside. Students will be admitted into the building at 7:45. There is no adult supervision for students before 7:45. Grades ECE-2snd will be in the cafeteria on inside mornings and grades 3-5 will be in the auditorium.

In order to respect our instructional time, please plan to prearrange your visits.
Please reach out to your child's teacher before visiting your student's classroom.
This allows the teacher to plan an engaging way for you to participate, and will not detract from student learning.
Celebrating birthdays with your child's class is a great way to build community and make your child feel special. In order to respect our instructional time, please plan to have these celebrations during your child's lunch period in the cafeteria. As a reminder, all food brought to share must be prepackaged. Homemade food may not be shared.
Lost and found items are near the gym
. Please encourage your student to look through the lost and found for items that they have misplaced. All items not retrieved at the end of the month will be donated to a local charity.

¿Te interesa la jardinería? ¿Has estado pensando en tener un jardín pero no sabes por dónde empezar? ¿O no tienes un lugar para jardín ahora? ¡El Estudio de Activación Comunitaria para la Prevención (CAPS) está buscando participantes para un estudio de investigación sobre jardinería comunitaria y hay algunas parcelas CAPS reservadas en el Jardín Comunitario McMeen! Los participantes deben tener al menos 18 años de edad y ser nuevos en la jardinería o no tener jardín en los últimos 2 años. Una vez inscripto, 1) recibirá plantas y semillas, y educación en jardinería en 2018, O 2) esperará en el jardín y recibirá una parcela comunitaria DUG, semillas, plantas y educación de jardinería en 2019. Se proporcionará una compensación financiera. Llegadas tardes:
La llegada de todos los estudiantes después de las 8:05 am deberán de entrar en la puerta de Holly. Recuerde estudiantes quienes llegan a las 8:05 serán considerados tarde y recibirán un pase de tardanza en la recepción
Inclemencias del Clima:
El tiempo de lluvia fresca de esta semana es un buen recordatorio de que se acerca el invierno. Durante las inclemencias del tiempo o en las mañanas frías donde la temperatura es de 32 grados o menos, llevaremos a los estudiantes al interior de la escuela. Los estudiantes serán admitidos en el edificio a las 7:45. No hay supervisión de adultos para los estudiantes antes de las 7:45. Grados ECE-primero será llevados a la cafetería en las mañanas de días de adentro y los grados 2-5 serán llevados al auditorio.
Visitas en los salones de clases:
En orden de respectar nuestro tiempo de instrucción, por favor planee y arregle con tiempo sus visitas. Po favor comuníquese con la maestra/o antes de vista el salón de sus estudiantes
Celebración de cumpleaños en McMeen:
Celebrando los cumpleaños con la clase de sus hijos, es una grandiosa manera de crear un sentido de comunidad y de hacer sentir especial a su hijo. A fin de respectar nuestro tiempo de aprendizaje, por favor planee estas celebraciones durante el periodo de almuerzo de su hijo en la cafetería.
Como recordatorio, toda la comida que traiga para compartir debe de ser empaquetada. Comida hecha en casa no se permitirá compartir.
Articulos Perdidos:
Artículos perdidos y encontrados se encuentra en una locación: en la salida por el gimnasio.
Por favor pidale a su hijo a buscar en el área de artículos perdidos para encontrar sus objetos perdido. todos los artículos no reclamados serán donados a una caridad al final del mes.
