The program will include holding hands to create a human chain symbolizing our communal efforts to protect the land of our Virginia communities. It also will show solidarity with other front-line communities across our great nation facing injustices caused by fossil fuel projects such as natural gas fracking wells, waste water injection wells, pipelines, compressor stations, liquid natural gas export facilities, mountain top removal, crude oil transport by rail, and offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico

Climate Reality Presentation

WHEN : Tuesday, June 5, 7-9 PM (Snacks at 6:30 PM)

WHERE : Centreville Library, 14200 St.   Germain   Drive,   Centreville, VA

( Sponsor : Sierra Club/Great Falls Group)

DETAILS : Paula Clements, an Al Gore trained Climate Reality Leader, will present a compelling presentation about the destructive impact of climate change.

With business as usual, we will see bad conditions get worse. The U.S. could see a 400% increase in extreme downpours alone by the end of the century!

Paula will include uplifting success stories of efforts to stop the damage to our planet. For example, in 2002 scientists predicted that solar energy would grow by one gigawatt every year by 2010 but that goal was exceeded 75 times over by 2016! It is projected that by 2020, renewable energy will be the cheapest form of new-power generation across the globe. The images in this presentation are powerful and inspiring,
Pipelines Update
Construction crews began tree cutting for the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) in Southwest Virginia in early March 2018. Cutting trees along parts of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) corridor began shortly after the MVP.

The devastation of private properties and National Forests was horrifying to watch as the crews progressed through our state clear cutting all trees within the construction corridor. Removal of the trees was not permitted and the trees are still lying on the ground, a stark reminder of the senseless destruction.
