Sunday Morning
April 7, 2019
I thought this picture probably summed up the 2019 Charlotte Trade-O-Ree very well.  Seeing a bunch of Scouts (girls and boys) digging through a dollar table laughing and having a good time.  You can barely make out the Scout in the back wearing a newly found Sea Scout cap that he got for $1.  We got the Scouts out to the TOR and that's probably the hardest thing to pull off!
This Weekend Is Loaded With Auctions
I really only slowed down enough one time to take pictures of the action.  Friday night we had 22 Scouts take Collections merit badge.  Special thanks to our counselor Stuart Tucker who opened up the class to all comers and got a big crowd. The concessions were handled by our new Scouts BSA girl troop and Russell Smart commented privately that it was the largest group of female Scouts he had seen in one place so far.

Order of the Arrow Auctions Up For Bids
The silent auction featured over 700 items with 5 total rounds through the weekend.  I sat down with Terry Limbo Friday night who told me in 3 years it was his best TOR he had been to for sales and making a big deal with Hank Birdsong.  We recognized Steve Adams and Rick Stewart with a box of Girl Scout cookies for traveling the farthest from KY and IL respectively.

Auctions Are The Hot Finds Secret
It is always hard to get an accurate count but we had over 75 Scouts attend the event and almost 60 finished the scavenger hunt.  We had an entire den of Wolves come to earn the Hobbies belt loop and then on Saturday a troop from Lancaster, SC pulled in coming from their weekend camping trip to visit the TOR.  I think we can build on this exposure for year 4 which will be one weekend earlier on the calendar March 27-28, 2020.

We are moving up the date to stay away from Easter which moves around the calendar as you know.  But perhaps that earlier date will help us avoid some conflicts next year like the SR9 Conclave (GA), and conclave work weekends for neighboring lodges that are hosting later this month.  Who knows for the first time that might also get us off the weekend of the Allentown, PA show.
Last Weekend In March Next Spring!

I want to personally thank Matthew Delk for bringing the TOR tables from Chris Jensen's warehouse to make the TOR affordable.  We raised over $1,000 for Cub Scout Pack 33.  At last count the concessions raised over $500 for our new Troop 233.  I don't know what the sales total was for Catawba Lodge 459 but I know they moved some inventory.  So overall I'm really pleased that this event supports local Scouts in our church and council while being a great weekend gathering for fellow collectors.
