Here at NIS, we are proud to use the Incredible Years program throughout our school. The Incredible Years program is a child, teacher, and parent program that aims to improve behaviors and social skills in children.
Every week, puppets named Wally, Dina, and their friends, visit the children in class to learn and practice new skills, with help from Miss Paula. Over the course of this year, the children will be learning about how to do their best in school, how to identify feelings and solve problems, and how to make friends. Games, videos, songs, and activities are used to teach and practice the skills taught in each lesson.
The Incredible Years parent workshops provide practical solutions and helpful strategies to assist your child's development and address everyday problems you may face with your child. These workshops are offered during the daytime and evening, and are a great way to learn how to apply the strategies used here at NIS to your home. More information will be coming home in your child's backpack soon!
All of our teachers and educational staff members are trained with the Incredible Years program as well. In this training, teachers learn how to support positive behaviors in the classroom, and learn ways to carry over the skills taught in the weekly Incredible Years lessons.
If you have any questions about the Incredible Years program, please feel free to contact Dr. Samantha Boutis, school psychologist, at 631-924-5583 x503.
We're looking forward to an Incredible Year!!
