Varsity Golf Picking Up the Pace
Varsity Golf ended a busy week, taking on excellent competition from around the valley. The team won on Tuesday, by two strokes over AIA #4 Ranked Scottsdale Christian and twenty plus over Veritas Prep. Eric Baker & Mathew Mclelland led the Chargers with a 39 & 37. Both of these scores were career best scores for them.
The Chargers toughest test of the year was Wednesday vs #1 Valley Christian & #3 Scottsdale Prep. It didn't go as planned, as Arete finished a distant 3rd in the triangle match. One lone bright spot was Eric Baker, who tied his career low and finished 4th place individually with another 39. The Chargers finished second in their Thursday match, behind ACP. the team showed consistency, with all golfers scoring in the 40's. Brennan Weir had team individual honors with a 42, good enough for 2nd overall.
Arete Prep remains in the top ten rankings in the state, as they look to qualify for states as a team, for the first time in program history. As juniors, Erik Baker and Brennan Weir qualified individually for states in 2018.
