What is the purpose of schooling in society? What are the relationships among educational reform, globalization, and social change across local, national, and international scales? Every society can be characterized by norms, values, and assumptions that serve as core concepts that influence individuals and institutions in ways both obvious and subtle. Schools and educational systems provide a rich and telling view of the core concepts that affect society because they are both products of society and a process for effecting changes in society. 

This year's Provost's Global Forum addresses these questions and issues through a variety of events. The Forum will kick off with a WorldCanvass program and will also include the 2019 Joel Barkan Memorial Lecture.   Learn more

Four UI students awarded prestigious scholarship
We are proud to announce that Alexander Bare, Abby Rinaldi, Mark Schoen, and Angel Trachta have won U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarships (CLS). CLS scholars gain language and cultural skills that enable them to contribute to U.S. economic competitiveness and national security.   Learn more
UI team involved in ancient DNA research on Iberia
University of Iowa anthropology professor Katina Lillios and UI archaeologists were involved in the largest study to date of ancient DNA from the Iberian Peninsula This summer, she will take a group of UI students to a key site in central Spain.  Learn more

Siyanda Mohutsiwa's love of reading and writing brought her here, and she brings with her, among other things, expertise on African politics, youth, and social media.  A graduate of the UI Writer's Workshop, Mohutsiwa is now an adjunct assistant professor in the English department.   Learn more

Join International Programs for Bridging Domestic and Global Diversity's annual Open Forum event taking place on Thursday, April 18, 2019, from 2:30-4 p.m. in 1117 University Capitol Centre. The Open Forum provides an opportunity for Bridging Domestic and Global Diversity participants to become change agents to engage the campus community and raise awareness on diversity issues such as ethnicity, religion/spirituality/faith, and social class through student presentations and interactive dialogues. April 18
