Arlington Great Meadows: Guided Walk on June 30
Walk with your canine and human friends at the Arlington’s Great Meadows on Sat June 30th, 10am to noon. This event is sponsored by Friends of Arlington Great Meadows (FoAGM) and Arlington Dog Owners Group (A-DOG) . Many people like to walk with their dogs in natural outdoor areas. One such area, Arlington conservation land located nearby in Lexington, is Arlington Great Meadows. This walk will orient you to the various paths that you and your pup can enjoy there. People and leashed dogs are welcome for this walk to be led by David White, a leader in both sponsoring organizations. Please wear appropriate outerwear and footwear, as well as insect repellent.

Location: Meet in the parking lot of the nursing home at the end of Emerson Gardens Road and Bryant Street. From Maple Street, turn onto Emerson Gardens Road and follow it to the end. Enter the facility’s driveway (slowly please) and continue around to the right, keeping the building on your left. Proceed to the far end of the parking lot.  Here is a map .
A-DOG Robbins Library Table for 2018: Well-Read Dog Owners (and Service Pups) Welcome!
Once again (July, 2018) A-DOG will have a display table at Robbins Library to showcase what A-DOG is all about: Education, Fun, and Community! Last year, librarians and patrons gave lots of positive feedback and the table was very popular, with much free literature distributed (park off-leash recreation, dog safety in hot cars and tick prevention information). There were interactive games and puzzles (magnetic doggie poetry, dog facts tic-tac-toe to enter a chance to win cookies from Arlington’s Cookie Time bakery). Our banner and posters were displayed and many A-DOG brochures disseminated.

Various books (on behavior training, memoirs, fiction, scientific understanding of dogs) geared for both adults and children were a highlight and all were checked out from the table. A tri-fold board showcased photos from our literary programs (author talks with Sharron Kahn Luttrell, "Weekends with Daisy" and Shara Puglisi Katsos, "Doggie Investigation Gang D.I.G. Series"), the Reading Dogs at the Fox Library (an ongoing program) and educational presentations in collaboration with Arlington Animal Control ("Reading Dog Body Language", service dog in training from Operation Delta Dog, and clicker training with Carolyn Barney and "Living with Coyotes" with Belmont's ACO John Maguranis). Our many social activities were also highlighted, with photos of such events as our Arlington Town Day booth, Wine Tasting at Menotomy Beer, Wine and Spirits, Arlington Bark for Life “Roslyn’s Rovers” team, and Arlington Art Lounge painting fundraisers.

Look for more of the same exciting features this summer, July, 2018. Our Robbins Library display table is organized by Ellen Leigh, A-DOG member & Ricky (shown in photo) library liason and "Dog About Town".
Fido Fest & Dog Pageant Coming Soon on Aug 18: Submit Your Pet Videos
Fido Fest (August 18, 7–9 pm) is Greater Boston’s only video festival that celebrates loveable dogs and their loyal humans. Fido Fest 2017, its debut, was a huge success!

All are welcome to submit homemade videos of your hard working, funny, and quirky dogs. It’s easy to do at this link . On August 18, join us as we watch your blockbuster videos outside on the big screen while munching on popcorn and enjoying a night under the stars. Before the Film Festival, your pups will have the opportunity to strut their stuff at the Fido Fest Dog Pageant! Gain fame, win prizes, and let the world know that your pooch is the Top Dog.

A-DOG, ACMi, Jen Burns/Blue Sky Dogs , and Judy Weinberg/Re/Max Leading Edge are sponsoring Fido Fest. It’s a free event and there are no tickets, so it’s first come first served for outdoor "seating" on the grass.

How to become part of Fido Fest:

  • Send in your homemade dog videos. It’s easy to do at this link.
  • Bring your dog to the Fido Fest Dog Pageant. Categories are cutest wiggle, best costumes, & more.
  • Come enjoy a night under the stars with a movie and popcorn, generously donated by Arlington's own Capitol Theatre.

We look forward to seeing you and your pup this summer.
Wine Tasting Celebration at Menotomy Beer and Wine: See You Next Time!
On June 13, A-DOG held our Wine Tasting Members Celebration at Menotomy Beer, Wine and Spirits in Arlington. As usual, it was really fun and was very exciting to have A-DOG co-founder and former board member, Ann Smith (visiting from her new home in Alabama) in attendance with her daughter Sharon Tice. Ann Smith, with Roslyn Smith, were the original organizers of this annual event, along with A-DOG member Mary Parent, owner of Menotomy Beer, Wine and Spirits. This year, A-DOG board member Joan Black ensured that the tradition continued. To those who were able to attend, we're so glad you could join us! To those who could not, there will be more chances because we will definitely continue to offer this event.

Thanks to the Friends of A-DOG businesses who donated, including some great prizes for our drawing, to make this event possible. Menotomy Beer Wine & Spirits; Boston Poop Fairy; and Lucy's Real Meat Treats (made here in Arlington by Wendy Hori).
A-DOG Meetings in 2018-2019

A-DOG holds five meetings per year, in January, March, May, July and October. Unless otherwise noted, meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Community Room of the Jefferson Cutter House, 611 Mass Ave (at Mystic, in Arlington Center). The Community Room is accessible via the rear entrance at the municipal parking lot. Refreshments, typically with a potluck soup and salad meal, are served, generally beginning at 6 pm with the meeting from 7 to 8:30 pm. New members show up every time so please join us! Our next meeting is July 24, 2018. New this year: Meeting in July instead of August; we will plan the Town Day booth in August in a smaller group and anybody interested in Town Day is welcome to come (same time and place, but probably simpler refreshments).
