eLearning Schedule begins Nov. 23
Dear Parents:

I want to begin with a hearty thank you to the entire Trojan community for your support during this pandemic. Against impossible odds we are experiencing success both in and out of the classroom. Because our community continues to work together I firmly believe we will conquer the challenges we face and thrive for many years to come.

As communicated earlier, Mayor Joe Hogsett and Director of the Marion County Public Health Department Dr. Virginia Caine ordered all Marion County schools to return to virtual instruction by November 30. Bishop Chatard has made the decision to continue to operate using our hybrid model for the remainder of this week. Teachers and support staff will use this entire week to prepare and plan for our transition to full-time virtual instruction.

Full-time virtual instruction will begin on Monday, Nov. 23. The revised virtual daily schedule outlines class times, days off, recitation times, and office hours for the remainder of first semester. Please note the modification of the start/end time of the school day. The Student Expectations During Virtual Learning document provides valuable information that is essential for success in a virtual environment. Both of these documents will be reviewed with students over the next few days as we prepare for a smooth transition to virtual learning. Please take time to review both of these documents with your child.

I am pleased to announce that Bishop Chatard extracurricular activities, clubs, sports practices, games and events will continue as planned. Please note that beginning November 30, these events may only include participants, their parents or guardians, and support personnel.

Here are a few key reminders before we begin virtual instruction:

  • During full-time virtual instruction we will continue to track COVID-19 cases in our community. If your child tests positive for COVID-19, is quarantined due to COVID-19 exposure or exhibits COVID-like symptoms, even if you believe them to indicate something else, you must contact BCHS using the email address medical@bishopchatard.org. We will continue to monitor the information as it might impact whether a student may visit campus and participate in extracurriculars or sports.
  • Students will continue to be formed in faith while full-time virtual. Executive Director of Mission Integration Steven Patzke, Associate Director of Campus Ministry Joel Kelley and Campus Ministry Assistant Cathy Dolan have many plans in place to continue with faith formation and fun, including a Campus Ministry Power Hour everyday from 12:45-1:15. On Wednesdays they will have Cooking with Campus Ministry from 12:25-1:15 and on Thursdays they will have our regular school Mass at 12:45-1:15.
  • A fully charged, functional iPad will be essential to your child’s success. If your son/daughter has trouble with their iPad please send all tech concerns to GetHelp@bishopchatard.org. Be as descriptive as possible with your concerns and troubleshooting you have already done to try to resolve the problem.
  • Monitoring your child’s social and emotional wellbeing is important. If your son/daughter is overly stressed or depressed, please reach out to our guidance department or to our school social worker. Help is always available and each counselor can be reached via email by clicking the linked name below.

Thanks always for your support as we work through the challenges presented by this mandate. Please join me in praying for the success and safety of Bishop Chatard High School.

God bless,
Joe Hansen, Principal
