Have you heard of UCCS Green Teams?
Green Teams consist of faculty, staff, and students within departments who determine an overall goal to make their department more sustainable. Green Teams identify how their department or unit can increase efficiency, create a happy work environment, save money, and reduce their environmental impact by incorporating sustainable practices into their everyday processes.
Green Team participation is solely volunteer based and any amount of time dedicated to becoming more sustainable is positive. Members will be added to the larger network of Green Teams to communicate their practices, success, and trials to create a campus-wide, collaborative effort towards sustainability. Members do not need any prior experience or knowledge to be on a Green Team. Your passion and will to be more sustainable is all you need.

2019 UCCS Campus Sustainability Award - George Cheney
Join us in congratulating George Cheney, Professor of Communication, as he receives the 2019 UCCS Campus Sustainability Award Tuesday, April 23rd at the Campus Award Ceremony.
George's nominator wrote that he "was an integral part of the collaborative project with Joel Tonyan to conduct an inventory and increase the number of sustainability research publications that are easily accessible to our campus community in fall 2017.
This effort resulted in a significant point increase for the overall UCCS STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) Academic Research and Scholarship credit. George continued this partnership by co-authoring a submission to The Sustainable Library's Cookbook under the 'recipe' "Identifying and Publicizing Faculty Sustainability Research at Your Campus" in summer 2018.
In the classroom, George integrates sustainability into his instruction, but he also specifically teaches a course for both undergrad and graduate students that provides them the opportunity to produce valuable communication plans for non-profits, local governments, and for-profits businesses regarding their environmental goals. This course is in it's fourth year, and George continues to build lasting relationships with these local organizations who come back year after year to work with his students.
Along with his commitment to furthering sustainability efforts on campus, he continues to research and write editorials and publications on the topics of human rights, globalization, climate change and sustainability.
George's innovative and collaborative efforts, ability to complete projects on and off-campus, and provide meaningful opportunities for his students makes him an excellent candidate for the Campus Sustainability Award."

White Waves | 'Green on the Screen' Earth Day Documentary Screening
Join us Monday, April 22, 4:30-6:30pm in the University Center (room 303) for an Earth Day screening of the documentary
White Waves.
"Litter, wastewater, industrial products and chemicals-it is all ending up in the sea. There are some people that observe and feel the pollution day by day with their own body: surfers. Their love of nature and the water gives them the strength to go out, investigate and search for the source of the pollution. The team of White Waves traveled for two years along the beaches of Europe to meet those surfers and reveal widely unknown cases of pollution - from millions of small plastic wheels to pathogenic bacteria in the sea."

Fin: A Going Away Party
In celebration of Earth Day 2019, visual artist Marina Eckler presents a farewell event to bid the earth, as we know it, goodbye due to climate change predictions and actualities. In the tradition of going away parties, visitors will be invited to mill around, eat cake, and share thoughts and memories of humans.

Go Green | Sustainability Internship Program
The Go Green: Sustainability Internship Program allows you to gain valuable work experience, learn new skills, and expand your knowledge of sustainability practices. While Go Green internships are voluntary, these unpaid internships can often be utilized for academic credit. Our interns have gone on to work in a wide array of jobs related to sustainability.
Go Green: Interns have the opportunity to choose the projects they work on, and pursue something they are passionate about. Historically, students have completed a wide range of internships with the Office of Sustainability. These topics include event programming, projects management to development and implementation of Green Action Fund proposals. These internships can also offer you the opportunity to work with a wide range of community partners.
