Welcome New Student Representatives!

NASW-PA would like to welcome and introduce your new student representatives, who will be serving on the Board of Directors from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. Julia Laudadio (left) is your new BSW Student Representative and Sierra Arigurinu (right) is your new MSW Student Representative.

Julia Laudadio is a third-year BSW student at Kutztown University. She is the president of the Social Workers and Advocates at Kutztown and a member of Phi Alpha Honor Society. She hopes to pursue a career in macro-level social work. She was inspired to get involved with NASW after attending Legislative Education and Advocacy Day in Harrisburg in 2017.

Sierra is a MSW student and Alpha Delta Mu Honor Society member at Temple University. In the past year she has had the opportunity to study Social Work in Poland, Iceland and soon Germany, through the International and Global Social Work program. In the fall, she will begin an internship at CHOP's Child and Adolescents Psychiatry Unit.

We would also like to thank our Student Representatives who are transitioning out of the Board of Directors, Tiffany Peruso and Julie Platt. Thank you both for your hours of hard work improving student membership and advancing the profession as a whole! We appreciate your service.
Students, Join us for our 2018 Conference!

As you probably already know, we encourage social work students to join us at our annual conference each year. But did you know that we offer many perks to attending as a student? To begin with, students can attend at a heavily discounted rate. In addition, you can register even cheaper by applying to become a student volunteer during the conference (don't worry, you'll still have plenty of time to enjoy the conference aside from volunteer time). Students will also have the opportunity to present their research at our student poster session. Educate other students and professionals about what you've been researching throughout the year. On top of all of this, there are multiple workshops taking place on Friday that are specifically tailored towards student attendees. We encourage you to consider joining us for this year's annual conference, September 12-14, 2018 at the Kalahari Resort in the Poconos. Learn more here.

SB 530 Passes the Senate: Advocacy Works!

We would like to thank those students who joined us this year for Legislative Education and Advocacy Day, as well as those who have reached out to their legislators in support of Senate Bill 530. Thanks to YOUR effort, SB 530 has passed the Senate and is on its way to the Governor's desk to be signed into law! We are beyond excited and appreciative to our student members for your continual support throughout SB 530's journey through the legislature.
MSW Students Practice Placement in Kenya

This picture was taken at Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in Nairobi, Kenya. The MSW students pictured here practiced field placements with agencies in Embu, Kenya. Sr. Kevin was their task supervisor for the project. Lloyd Lyter was in Kenya lecturing at Catholic University of Eastern Africa to BSW, MSW, and PhD classes. The group left the U.S. on May 29 and returned on June 26. The students did presentations to faculty, students, and staff at CUEA on Friday June 22, before coming back to the US. This project was funded by the Schierling Foundation through a grant to the School of Social Work at Marywood University. Way to go social work students!
