YOUR VOICE IS NEEDED!
Proposal to raise the Housing Trust Fund!
|
City Manager Marcus Jones announced his budget, which included a proposal to raise the Housing Trust Fund from $15 million to $50 million. We were thrilled to see this commitment, especially given that one of the recommendations of the Leading On Opportunity task force report was to go as high as $50 million dollars to increase the production of affordable housing. We applaud this leadership! Now, we are asking for your help to attend and speak in support of this at next Monday's City Council Budget Hearing, May 14, 2018, at 5:30pm at the Council Chambers, located at 600 E. 4
th Street. In order to participate, you are required to call the City Clerk's office to register in advance. That number is (704) 336-2248. Feel free to share this and invite others to participate. Every voice counts.
Thank you for all that you do and your support! Below are a few helpful bullet points as to why we are supporting this item in the budget:
- I am here to voice my support the proposal for $50 million dollars for the Housing Trust Fund as a referendum in the fall bond campaign.
- Charlotte is experiencing exponential growth with over 60 new residents a day
- Lack of access to all types of housing is becoming a crisis
- Increased land values and the lack of appropriate mechanisms have resulted in significant barriers to create an adequate housing supply
- With a growing need of over 22,000 units of housing that is affordable, $50M will allow us to build mixed income communities that allow all of our residents equal opportunities
- One fact we can agree on: Even if we don't all want quality, affordable housing for our community, each of us wants quality, affordable housing for ourselves
- Too many of our children are not living in stable housing and are not afforded the same opportunity as others to be ready to learn each day

HEALTHCARE COVERAGE UPDATE
April 2018
|
As of April 2018, there is no group plan nor customized health plans that the AIA Trust can offer to AIA members-but the A
IA
Trust continues to monitor the situation in the event that changes. At present, the continuing Affordable
Care Act (ACA) defines only two ways in which someone can purchase private insurance: through their employer or as an individual. Currently
groups (such as associations) cannot band together and purchase health insurance on behalf of their members, and
until
that changes
, there are no immediate plans with association group pricing that the AIA Trust (or anyone) can offer.

The last day to take an ARE 4.0 division in a test center is June 30, 2018.
Candidates who have not completed ARE 4.0 by this date will need to complete any remaining divisions in ARE 5.0 to satisfy the examination requirement for licensure.

AIA Best Practice: Winning Credit for Your Work - An Expert's View
|
Securing basic credit and even modest visibility for design projects is a frequent frustration for architects. If your firm does not have the resources for a high-impact publicity campaign, a few simple steps can still help you receive appropriate credit. The process does not have to be time-consuming or expensive, but it does require a little creativity and follow-through.
