Distraction Digest
April 20-April 24
We may not be able to celebrate the 99 th  Rose Show this week but we can at least help you enjoy the memories of the first 98! We’re going to take a break from our "Distraction Digest” to feature past Rose Shows & Festivals using photographs and video footage #fromthearchives.

This also presents us with the perfect opportunity to gather your feedback about our "distraction" programming. What have you liked or disliked, and what would you like to see from us going forward? Please take a moment to complete this short anonymous survey.

Do You Remember? Rose Festival Parades
Thursday, April 23 at 10am
Facebook, @thomasvillehistory
Part viewing party part conversation, tune in to Facebook at 10am on Thursday, April 23 for the premiere of footage from early Rose Festival Parades. These films were recently digitized as a part of a 2019 Digital Library of Georgia Grant.

Though silent, the films convey the community’s excitement for the first several parades and the growth of the event in the 1960s.
Ed Kelly Collection: Rose Festival Float, 1953
We've edited the footage for time but the complete versions of these parades can be viewed online on the Digital Library of Georgia . The footage includes films donated to the History Center by Joe May in 2005 and from the Chamber of Commerce Collection.

As you watch, comment on the video with your own recollections and pose questions to the community about their memories.
Take a walk down memory lane...
Check out our previous Do You Remember? The Rose Show & Festival program recordings including a slideshow of photographs from the Ed Kelly Collection at the Thomasville History Center and the panel discussion.
The Thomasville History Center, the Thomasville Center for the Arts, and the Thomasville Visitor’s Center want to bring a little color and fun into your quarantine! All ages are invited to participate in the “Our Story” coloring contest featuring a design from the Thomasville  History Center’s coloring book.

A panel of local professional artists from the Thomasville Center will choose the winners. The winner in each age bracket will receive a special Thomasville prize pack including goodies from the Thomasville Visitors Center and the Thomasville History Center.

If you do not have access to a printer, the History Center has limited quantities available for contactless pick up on the side porch of the Flowers-Roberts House, located at 725 N. Dawson Street.
