Jane Markley, an internationally recognized expert in Advance Care Planning, will introduce attendees to some of the steps that can be taken to help accomplish this task, including how to start the conversation and why doing this is such a gift. Registration is required. Free of charge.

Hospice Caring Receives 2018 Making a Difference Award

At a reception on Friday, May 4, Hospice Caring proudly accepted the 2018 Making a Difference Award (small nonprofit category) from  the Nonprofit Village. The Making a Difference Award recognizes organizations for their outstanding contributions to community collaboration, nonprofit sustainability, and impact. 

In her remarks, Allison Stearns, Executive Director of Hospice Caring, said that what makes Hospice Caring so special is that "many of our volunteers find a community and volunteer home with us. They become woven into the fabric of our organization." She praised the organization's volunteers, who "carry out a vision of caring and human dignity, standing firm and offering compassion in the face of loss."

Thank You For Raising Your Glass!

Over 100 Hospice Caring supporters gathered on May 2, 2018, at the home of the Hon. Jeffrey Z. Slavin to raise a glass in support of Hospice Caring. We are pleased to announce this year's event raised nearly $40,000 to support our caregiving and grief support programs! Thank you to everyone who participated. We appreciate your generous support and couldn't do this important work without you!

Longtime Hospice Caring volunteer, Mike Bucci, was honored with the City of Gaithersburg's Distinguished Citizen Award at the 2018 Gaithersburg State of the City Address on April 26.

Do you know someone looking to make a difference while gaining valuable career skills? Hospice Caring is looking for a two full-time AmeriCorps Members (often known as the domestic Peace Corps)  for its 2018-2019 service year. Welcome to Our Newest Staff Member: Leigh Bluestein
 
Hospice Caring welcomes Leigh Bluestein as our new Director of Communications & Education. Leigh has over 25 years of experience working with nonprofits in the Washington, DC area. Earlier in her career, she worked in government affairs for the American Academy of Pediatrics and as a consultant for the Association of Community Cancer Centers.  

More recently, Leigh worked in communications and marketing for EveryMind and Warrior Canine Connection where she developed a deep understanding of the complexities of mental health issues. Leigh holds a BA in Political Science and English from Vanderbilt University and a MA in Public Communications from The American University.
