From the Head of School
2019 MAP Test Schedule
Dear families,
The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test starts at the end of the month for some of our students. All 3rd-8th grade students will be tested on their math and English skills. Fifth and eighth-graders will also take the science test.
How you can help:
- provide a nutritional breakfast (at home or at school)
- make sure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before the test. Young brains tire fast and need a full night of sleep, about 10 hours, to rest and grow.
- encourage your child to do his/her best
- please arrive early at school so that your child can get settled in the classroom before testing starts
- don't stress out over the test
- avoid scheduling appointments that can be done at a later date
- encourage your child to bring a book to read when done with the test, as all students will have to remain quietly seated until all students are finished testing.
- practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and visualization (think positive thoughts) with your child so they can relax on the big day!
We hope that sharing this schedule ahead of time will help you
adjust appointments and trips so that your child can be present during his/her grade level testing time.
You can
click
here to access the MAP schedule pdf, or look below for your child(ren)'s campus schedule. Please note that students with IEPs may have a different schedule. You can contact your child's special education teacher for more information.
As always, thank you for your support,
Elimane Mbengue

INFO SHARING
Calling all civic-minded-roll-up-your-sleeves-let's-get-this-done kind of people--AcadémieLafayette's Parent Teacher Organization (
PTO) needs you!
The
PTO
elections process will take place in the months of April and May. We are putting out the call of motivated volunteers. Our new structure will call for four parents from each campus to represent all three campuses on the
PTO board.
You will need to submit a short half page bio with the campus you wish to represent and reason for running to Leslie Kohlmeyer at
ezl101@hotmail.com by April 15. These will be posted on the PTO website with links distributed in the newsletter.
We will then hold a special meeting to allow for all candidates to speak and answer questions. Immediately following we will distribute an electronic ballot for voting. Voting will take place over a one-week period and then results will be calculated.
If there are fewer candidates than there are open seats there will be no need for a vote. All who run will be given the seat. Please stay tuned for the voting meeting date.
Areas of need for
PTO:
- Accounting professional for possible role as treasurer
- Organizational wizard for possible role as events coordinator
- Communications or Design Professional for possible role of Communications VP
- Volunteer coordination
- Leadership minded individuals

INFO SHARING
Attention Oak parents, I am a parent volunteer that keeps the Oak uniform closet organized and wanted to let you know that the lost and found near the front entrance is overflowing. Please come by in the next few weeks to see if any of your child's stuff is there. If you don't see it there please come down to the unlocked uniform closet where there are tons of sweaters and sweatshirts that have been hung up there. Please remember by the end of the year unclaimed items will be donated or put in the uniform closet.
Thank you, Sally King

INFO SHARING
Parent volunteer, Olivier Griot, and Oak office manager, Jessica Wallace, worked together to create a pilot website aimed at making it easier for AL parents to find and purchase books and other materials in French. Right now, we are offering a selection from 3 publishers: Scholastic from Canada (like US Scholastic, but books are in French), Bayard/Milan Presse (French magazines) and Ecole des Loisirs (a French book publisher which offers yearly book subscriptions). We hope to add more publishers to the site as we continue to develop the site and find more options our community may be interested in.
We will be compiling orders placed by parents on this website and collecting payments. In turn, we will place bulk orders with each publisher, which enables us to take advantage of volume discounts and cheaper/faster shipping options. The books will be delivered to school, and will be distributed to students in their classrooms, unless otherwise specified. (Note: all payments go directly to Acad
émie Lafayette. Any benefits - like points, free subscriptions, free books,... - will be used to purchase more French books for the school.)
The website is ready to start receiving orders, so check it out!
