Danny Burgess Jr. is a member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing District 38, which includes the eastern half of Pasco County.

Rep. Burgess was born and raised in Zephyrhills, Florida. He is an East Pasco native and he attended Pasco County public schools. He received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of South Florida '08 and J.D. from Barry University School of Law '12. Rep. Burgess was recognized by USF in 2017 with an Outstanding Young Alumnus Award.

At the age of 18 while a freshman at USF, Rep. Burgess was elected to the Zephyrhills City Council. In 2013, he was elected the Mayor of Zephyrhills, making him the youngest mayor in the city's history. In 2014, Rep. Burgess was elected into the Florida House of Representatives and subsequently reelected in 2016.

His commitment to serve extends beyond the Florida House Chambers and into the military tribunal court system where he serves as a Judge Advocate for the U.S. Army Reserves.

Rep. Burgess currently serves on several House committees and subcommittees including the Local, Federal and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee. In February, Rep. Burgess was recognized as the Legislator of Year by the Veterans of Foreign Wars for the State of Florida and said that receiving the award “was one of the highest honors of my life.”

As an Army Reservist, Rep. Burgess is tirelessly committed to fighting for veteran and military friendly legislation including serving as the lead sponsor of HB 333, "an act relating to minimum officer qualifications," which was passed by the 2018 Florida Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Rick Scott in March. HB 333 reduces excessive licensing and re-training requirements for highly trained soldiers.
Q. Who or what motivates you everyday?
My children and wanting to leave them a better world.

Q: How do you and your family enjoy spending your free time?
My children have taught my wife and I that every day, every place and anything can be a new, exciting adventure. We love exploring the outdoors, Florida's beautiful state parks and of course our personal fan-favorite, Disney World.

Q: Why did you choose to begin a career in public service?
September 11, 2001, put the rest of my life in focus for me. It was on that day watching our world change forever in my 10th grade high school English class, that I knew I was going to enter public service. That is why I decided to serve in our armed forces and that is why I am seeking to continue to serve our state and my community in the Florida House – we have one life to live and I believe we must do all we can with the short time we have here on earth, to make a difference.

Q: What is your fondest memory here at USF?
One of my fondest memories at USF was being invited to have lunch with our amazing President, Judy Genshaft. Upon learning of my election to the Zephyrhills City Council as a Freshman at USF, President Genshaft and the entire university could not have been more gracious and I am forever grateful for their encouragement and the support they give the entire student body.
