Issue 31
March 2019
Charlestown Coalition
receives
Love Your Block Grant!
Last year the Charlestown Coalition received the City of Boston's Love Your Block Grant and used the $2,700 to revitalize a park in the community. Alongside many volunteers, we worked hard planning, designing, and creating a colorful, interactive space at the Mt. Vernon St. Plaza. We re-dedicated the space as Charlestown's very own "Peace Park" honoring loved ones no longer with us, including the late Robert McGrath, a victim of community violence. The park was originally dedicated to Robert 30 years ago.
This year we applied for the same grant, and once again we got it! We'll use the funds to keep Mt. Vernon St. Plaza a sacred space for all Charlestown residents. Contact the Charlestown Coalition to find out how you can get involved! Email Ginaya at Ggreene-Murray@Partners.org or give us a call (617) 726-6684.

Annual Wellness Fair
at the Harvard-Kent School
Staff from the Charlestown Coalition and some of our
Turn It Around youth attended the Annual Wellness Fair at Harvard-Kent School on March 21st. We had a great time!

Family Support Circle's Phenice Zawatsky and  Turn It Around members helped make slime and glitter jars and handed out important resources to everyone who stopped by our table. The slime and glitter jars are used as mindfulness and stress reduction tools. Educational materials on stress reduction and healthy coping skills were included in our "stress kits." The Fair was a great success with lots of health and safety information being handed out by local organizations.
