Closures Expected as Kiosk Construction Kicks Off Downtown
Construction on new wayfinding kiosks in Downtown Garland will begin Monday, April 8, and bring with it lane closures and/or parking blockages in three locations:
- Downtown Square (State Street at Sixth Street)
- Granville Arts Center (Fifth Street at Austin Street)
- City Hall (Fifth Street at State Street)
These installation areas will be impacted for up to two weeks once construction begins. After these kiosks are installed, construction on two other locations will begin at the Central Library (Austin Street at Sixth Street) and on Main Street (Main Street at Glenbrook Drive).
The new kiosks are the next phase of the City's wayfinding program to help direct travelers to historic Downtown. The kiosks will feature maps and a series of messages highlighting the area's many features. Learn more.

2019 Bond Informational Meetings
City of Garland officials will host four public meetings to help Garland residents learn more about the 2019 Bond Referendum proposals voters will consider in the May 4 election.
The public meetings are scheduled as follows:
- Thursday, April 11 - 6 p.m. at Audubon Recreation Center, 342 W. Oates Road
- Saturday, April 13 - 2 p.m. at North Garland Branch Library, 3845 N. Garland Ave.
- Thursday, April 18 - 6 p.m. at Hollabaugh Recreation Center, 3925 W. Walnut St.
- Saturday, April 20 - 2 p.m. at Garland City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.
Each session will include a presentation and the opportunity for residents to ask questions.

Earth Day Celebration
Join GoGreenGarland from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Garland's Recycling Center, 1426 Commerce St.
Experience nature through animal encounters and wildflower planting, get a flush of adrenaline at the toilet races, enjoy live music, recycle your unwanted electronics for free, shred unwanted paper, and so much more at the City's celebration!
There is also a Keep Garland Beautiful Spring Trash-Off happening at 8 a.m. and eco-friendly recycling competitions.

Garland Heritage Celebration
Celebrate Garland's arts history from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the sixth annual
Garland Heritage Celebration on the historic Downtown Square.
The public is invited to enjoy live music, a scavenger hunt, bounce houses, mechanical bull rides, food vendors and much more.
Premiering at this year's Heritage Celebration is the Landmark Museum's newest exhibit, Garland Arts & Entertainment, which tells of Garland's rich and varied arts history that began in the late 1800s.

Blue Cart Recycling Program Continues Without Interruption
Recycled materials are considered commodities, and the price of the recycled material goes up and down depending on market trends. The City of Garland is continuing its recycling program in the midst of market downturns and import bans on recycled materials. The items being placed in your blue recycling cart are recycled.
Residents can help the City ensure the affordability of our recycling program by placing only acceptable material in the blue recycling carts.

April Is Fair Housing Month
Join Garland's Fair Housing Department at two events this month!
First, take part in a Community Conversation: Is Fair Housing Fair? from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at 232 Carver St.
Return the following week for a Landlord/Tenant Rights and Responsibilities Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 16, at 232 Carver St.

Garland Fire "Fills the Boot" for Muscular Dystrophy Association
The Garland Fire Department and Garland Fire Fighters Association Local 1293 have kicked off their annual Fill the Boot campaign. Firefighters will fan out across the city with boots in-hand Friday, April 12.
Every dollar pitched into the firefighters' boots will help provide medical treatment and support to Garland-area individuals living with neuromuscular diseases.

Adult Craft Workshop: Mini Wine Cork Planters
Adults 18 and older can turn wine corks into miniature planters for succulents at the Garland Library's next adult craft workshop,
2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the
South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.
All supplies are provided by the library.

School Crossing Guards Needed
Do you want to earn extra income working only two hours per day and making a difference in your community?
The City of Garland Transportation Department is recruiting candidates interested in the flexibility of working part-time as a school crossing guard, keeping students and neighbors safe as they walk to and from school. The hours are from 7 to 8 a.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. on school days at designated crosswalks.
