"Start Abstract Painting Today Part Two -  Non-Objective Abstracts"

Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!

Staying with the series of assignments from my Loosen Up with Aquamedia Painting Workshop, this BobBlast is part two of abstract painting. The last BobBlast I demonstrated my version of objective painting... how I paint stories in an abstract way. However, this BobBlast approaches abstract painting in a non-objective way.

Non-Objective Abstract Painting is not about storytelling, but instead about another painting style filled with abstract intentions. The artist paints with a meaningful abstract focus and purpose, whereas the objective painter tends to tell a story meaningful to them. Both are legitimate directions and styles.

My abstracts, whether objective or non-objective, are meaningful to me. I paint them in groups - a series of at least twenty paintings. Every painting has a title in that specific series before I begin painting it. That way, I know when the painting is finished - when it matches its title!

I paint objective abstracts to visually tell a story. For my non-objective work, it's free playtime for me. I randomly practice painting all over the canvas. My intention is to be improvisational and abstract - laying a solid foundation, starting with four colors from my Goof-Proof Color Wheel. Next, I determine a graphic design composition and start with big, bold shapes. I do these steps whether I am painting objectively or non-objectively.

This free playtime is an important ingredient in gaining your confidence in painting your own stuff. Paint abstractly... with clear meaning!
